    Default Spider-Man: City At War

I haven’t seen a thread around for this so thought I’d get one going. This comes out next week, and seems to basically be a comic-retelling of the events in the game. What do you guys think?

Bit undecided if it’ll be worth getting or not at the minute, I don’t know what would sway me.

Methinks they should have gone the way of the injustice comics which are the best game tie in comics. Those were digital releases weekly and so on and were able to work as prequels building up to the first game.

Hopeless is writing this title, so I'll try the first issue.

And there is also Bandini, which means the art must be gorgeous.

As much as I would have liked that, I could also see Insomniac really wanting to do their own thing and not be bound to a comic continuity.

I'm not a gamer so it's connection to the game means nothing to me. The fact that Hopeless is writing this piques my interest, though.

If the preview art looks sharp enough, I'll likely check out the first issue.

I wonder why they didn't get Cristos Gage to write this, lol.

(For those who don't know, Gage was one of the game's main writers.)

From the sound of it, it looks like this story is being used to set up a "Gamerverse", presumably leading to more stories told in this Insomniac-verse later down the road, which I don't mind.

Hopeless has said they aren't doing a traditional re-telling of the game, with some issues told from the perspectives of other characters, and Bandini's art that we've seen looks excellent, so I'm interested to check it out at least on those merits.

I guess I could see them doing one-shots on other characters in their Insomniac incarnations, like Black Cat maybe, but I don't see them doing much more expanding on that until Insomniac locks down what they want to do with the sequel.

That doesn't seem all that far off when even the game shifted the POV at times.

I wonder if they will have expected people who picked up this comic to have played the game. (The game has sold over nine million copies.)

When was the last time a comic sold 9 million copies. And a console exclusive too. The game apparently helped confirm the PS4 as the top selling console. As a rule console gamers and comics readers tend to triangulate and a number of games like bloodborne, dishonoured, assassin creed and uncharted have comics tie ins. Usually put out by titan comics. So yeah I think the comic is targeted in a big way to those who played the game.

Sometimes tie in comics get bit ahead. Like Thor dark world had this scene where Loki was brought to the throne room. Originally this was in the tie in prequel comic but Kevin Feige came across an early comic and liked it so much that during reshoot she incorporated it into the final movie.

I imagine that's the intention behind doing a tie-in, but I doubt there will be much audience overlap.

No interest in a retelling of the video game. I would be interested if eventually it becomes it's own title and expands on the game.
    AKA FlashFreak
    Favorite Characters:
DC: The Flash (Jay & Wally), Starman- Jack Knight, Stargirl, & Shazam!.
MARVEL: Daredevil, Spider-Man (Peter Parker), & Doctor Strange.

    Current Pulls: Not a thing!

The way it was described in an interview, it doesn't sound like its just switching to Miles/MJ for those small sections, but rather having a whole issue focused on their perspective for that portion of the game, which I do hope they end up going that way because that is a really clever way of making it all seem newer for people who played the game already.

That seems to me as an acknowledgement or nod to that aspect of the games, but depending on how they handle it (like still keeping it to their POV even in moments where we were in Peter's head) it could offer some new insight into the cast.
