Interesting. It appears that things were settled more or less months ago, but a lot of ink had to dry before announcement. Looks like we'll be waiting until after Suicide Squad 2 wraps, but that's understandable.
Continuity, even in a "shared" comics universe is often insignificant if not largely detrimental to the quality of a comic.

The article states that he will work on Guardians after Suicide Squad is finished. SS is coming out in 2021, so expect GotG 3 in 2022? So the overall net effect is that Guardians 3 will come out 2 years later than originally planned. Originally Posted by Things Fall Apart

For what it's worth the article states they never met with or considered other directors. Granted that may or may not be true, but if it is perhaps the idea all along was to rehire Gunn down the line after the news cycle moved on. Originally Posted by MindofShadow
