Seems like a bad stunt then given the cast backlash. Plus the guy in question at Disney that did this is famously in sync with the kind of thinking he used to fire Gunn in the first place.

This seems like a ludicrous idea to me.

It's confusing, but some reports seem to say that they never actually fired Gunn and it was all just a show, so that the conservative run federal government would approve the Fox merger. And once that was done, they were able to come out and say that Gunn hadn't been fired and he would be doing the next GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY movie.

And while I'm happy for the Guardians fans, I'm anxious where that leaves us DC fans. It seems like Gunn agreed to do the SUICIDE SQUAD movies, knowing that he was going to go back to Disney. The promise of SUICIDE SQUAD wasn't just that he would do that one movie--I was hoping for more sequels or other DC projects with Gunn.

And that seems unlikely--even if he directs SUICIDE SQUAD 2, will he ever return to DC after that? It sounds like Disney has big plans for Gunn and he'll be too busy directing and producing other Marvel movies to have time for DC. So it's a real come down for DC fans, when it seemed like things were starting to get good for the movies and we would be having lots of Gunn comic book movies in the future.

It seems like a plausible idea but I think more then likely Horn jumped the gun ans no one else really supported the firing. But because the merger Disney wanted to fly below the radar and be left alone. But none of us really know. So ima just be thankful we got Gunn back. My brothers son has a disability that makes talking hard. And groot helped him learn to cope with that. And Gunn wrote my brother back and forth on Facebook and then gave him his personal email. Sent they're family groot Merchandise out the ass and would check in and ask how my nephew was doing. So I never thought he was a bad dude for a second.

Cool. I heard a similar story about a kid with asperger who really latched onto Drax. We need more heroes like Groot and Drax, just as we need more female heroes and more queer heroes.

Yeah, I understand that the tweets to some were ancient history but it seems that the ancient history rule is applied unfairly and varies depending on who the person is.

All this demonstrates is the hypocrisy of Disney and their lack of a backbone to stick to their decision. Instead they folded like lawn chairs and only rehired Gunn because of his buzz that he was getting as the new director of Suicide Squad. Yeah I know he's creative and a top earner for the House of Mouse, but from an integrity standpoint it's an epic fail for them.
If integrity is an issue than Disney should fire Chris Pratt too.

Disney’s racist cartoons are ancient history. They learned from them and have decided that isn’t the kind of content they want to make. Just like Gunn with his tweets. Disney would’ve been holding themselves to a standard that would’ve not only resulted in the termination of people like Downey Jr., but, potentially, the company as well. It would be one thing if it was said under the employ of the Mouse House (Roseanne for instance), but it was long before he was hired.

I don't like people being punish for stuff they did in their past. I'm sure all of us said and did things years ago that we won't do now. Disney knew about those tweets when they hired Gunn. It did come up when they announced him as writer/director of the first movie.

Yea my Nephew has Dyspraxia(?) He was 5 and he only said words like Ba. And watching groot helped him learn to use different Inflections of the word to get his message across. Hes been in speech therapy and now he talks ok. Hard to understand if he gets excited but he can talk and say most words. I Think the disability has something to do with motor function around the mouth.

Yup, I dont know if I think hes innocent or not but there is no real proof that he isnt. The two guys in the Doc keep pointing out they werent laid to do it but they both have open Lawsuits for alot of money against the waste. Shifting public opinion could really help them there(Though legally it shouldnt). Like I said before even if theres a 1% chance they are telling the truth I'm not gonna attack them because that the worst thing imaginable and theres words. I'm still undecided about Mike and I have a feeling we are never really gonna know the trurh for sure.

Disney's cartoons weren't considered racist at the time. Most, mainly white people, thought they reflected real life. It is only in retrospect, the modern way of thinking, that they are considered racist.
While with Gunn people felt they were wrong even when he was making those jokes. But that was his whole point, he was trying to offend people, to get a rise out of them. When Disney was making
the cartoons they weren't trying to offend people. They genuinely felt these were cute and funny cartoons that would be loved by everyone. I think it was the same with Roseanne. It never occurred
to her that people would be offended by her comments. It seems like she thought she was just voicing what her fans also felt.

TBF there was a significant segment of the population at the time that did think they were racist. That segment just didn't have a voice at the time.
