    Default Gods of Krypton

In theory, I hate this concept for the Superverse.

I like the idea of Krypton being the source of most things sci-fi for Superman's stories. The idea that such a place had literal deities is more than a little frustrating to me.

But maybe that need not be the case.

I never read THE LAST GOD OF KRYPTON by Walt Simonson and the Hildebrandt brothers.

Was this any good? Looks gorgeous enough that I may have to look for it.

Main point: I would like to know more about Rao, Cythonna, and any other gods of Krypton that have seen publication and interacted with our boy Kal.

Is there a legit pantheon? Or is it just these two?

What are their powers? Is Rao a galaxy-buster like Marvel's Classic Odin or far beneath him in terms of feats?

What are the stories that these Kryptonian Gods appear?

    Questions, questions, questions ...

Well, I'm a little biased towards the Simonsons. But Walt on his few occasions really did show a natural understanding for what made early 90s Superman work. In this particular case, it's also amped by his combination of mythology and Thor experiences.

Those two are at least all I know of the Kryptonian gods who have been present in stories. Others are referenced as you'll see. There was a Kryptonian myth of sky and earth gods as a pair that have been compared to him and John Henry.

Powers well, Cythonna is the opposite of Rao. Also much stronger than Superman, but not infinitely. For all the earth gods we have, they're basically just like a small asgardian pantheon.

actually, krypton's religious was similar with catholicism,Rao is the true and only god, other gods more like angels in bible(included cythonna herself),and is the one who created the universe from emptiness void(at least,in post-crisis or kryptonian's mythology),then, nightwing and flamebird is the day and night, and flamebird she is the destroyer who destroying obsolete things, made it's could spread something new,and nightwing is rao eyes in shadow and night which basically omniscience, but also had vohc the builder and breaker which improvement rao himself creation untill him rebellion turned into breaker trying to bring the universe return to it's original chaos.also,is this deity creating phantom zone,an endless/infinite time and space place
and nighting mortal host is chris--superman's adopted son, also is zod's genetic son.flamebird's nortal host is thara, supergirl's friend, chris lover

Wow, nice. I have to say that I don't really remember New Krypton and I don't remember reading the original Nightwing Flamebird stuff.

I really liked that the show Krypton explored religion. I hope they continue. I never read this book but sounds intriguing. As long as it's well done, I'm always interested in reading or watching anything about Superman and his mythos.

Has anyone read "The Last Days of Krypton" book? I think I have it but never read it for reasons. Is it really good? I've never read "Dune" because it looks so long and I'm lazy lol.

Never heard of the book, but it sounds like it might be a good read. How old is it?

It was published way back in 1999, so it's 20 years old, and at the height of the post-COIE/pre-Flashpoint era.

Personally, I am not a fan of either Rao or Cythonna being physical beings that Kal can trade punches with.

My favorite interpretation of Rao was done by none other than Neil Gaiman in his Sandman graphic novel ENDLESS NIGHTS.

One of the plot points in that Vertigo book was that all of the stars (suns) in the universe are sentient, sapient beings who could project their humanoid avatars in different realms. Rao, being a red supergiant star, entered Dream's realm for a party as a tall muscular man of red flame. Sol, our sun, was also present as
a young boy of yellow flame by comparison.

Rao was having a discussion with Despair (Dream's sister) about the eventual death of Krypton and how one being should survive the destruction fo mourn its loss. And Rao was open to the idea!

It was only a couple of panels in an entire graphic novel of multiple stories, but man, you could definitely build off of that!

Personally, I would make Cythonna a sapient Black hole (who could also project a humanoid avatar) that was feeding off Rao, eventually killing him.
