Interesting question. One that for me would definitely change depending on my current viewing habits. But if I had to pick my personal Top Five as opposed to my opinion of the most important characters in TV/Movie history currently I would go with:
Captain Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda, MASH): Hilariously written—at least in the first 4 seasons, consistently compassionate and caring
James Bond (I’m old so I prefer Connery and Moore). The absolute archtypical British spy. Brilliant, pithy, tough, and suave
Captain James T. Kirk (Shatner, Star Trek). Yes Mr. Spock is the more important character, but Shatner’s Kirk was a personal hero to me: again brilliant, a tremendous tactician, a good commander and capable of self reflection
Thomas Magnum (Sellick, of course). Excellent detective and hand to hand combatant and very humorous as well
Rick Deckard (Ford, Blade Runner). Tough call between many of Ford’s hero roles: Indiana Jones or Han Solo, but this is my favorite film of all time so this role takes it for me: burnt out, dogged, also capable of self reflection yet defiant enough to spit at Batty as he was going to be killed
Honorable mention to Superman (Reeve) for making us believe a man can fly
1. Batman
2. Don Draper
3. Darth Vader
4. James Bond
5. Homer Simpson
In alphabetical order:
James Bond
Sherlock Holmes
Mr. Spock
Frank Underwood
Darth Vader
Avatar: Here's to the late, great Steve Dillon. Best. Punisher. Artist. EVER!
Just started rewatching the Gilmore Girls. For a show I watched when it first aired it's pretty amazing how much I remember, and having seen it already can still enjoy so much. Definitely a sign of a great show. I'm on episode 17 of the first season. Go Go Netflix.
My five
Avon from Blake's 7
The fourth Doctor Who
Hercules in all media
The Flash Wally and Barry: Silver age through William Messner Loebs.
