12 Heroes That Define DC Comics

Let's say a poster is drawn or a mural that shows 12 DC Heroes (not villains, just heroes) that are meant to represent DC Comics, who would those heroes be?

Of course, most are going to list Superman, Batman, WW, Flash, etc... It's those other eight or so that people will list that will be interesting to see.

For me I would think it (should) be:

Batman
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern
Flash
Martian Manhunter
Nightwing
Supergirl
Batgirl
Kon-el
Lois Lane
Alfred Pennyworth

There could be some contention that Lois and Alfred are not heroes, but they are as much heroes as the heroes they support Alfred is the one who keeps Batman running, he is there when no one else. He keeps the "family" tied together. The same is said for Lois who doesn't lose herself in the persona of Superman or Superman's wife/girlfriend. Strong, defiant and just as willing to take risks as any costumed adventurer.

Back in the 1970s, when I subscribed to AMAZING WORLD OF DC COMICS, I used to always like looking at the masthead, with the different heads representing different aspects of DC. The heads changed a few times, but it was a kick to see who made it to the top of the cover.

LOL! Having first encountered Super Friends I thought:

Childhood "Big 12" pantheon:
The Twins count as one, as do the Hawks as they always showed up and worked as a pair.

It's those other ... that people will list that will be interesting to see.

If we were including civilians, I'd swap out some of the above for Alfred and Lois, and maybe Gordon. I'd also say the general mantles for some of them (Flash, GL, Robin and Batgirl) are part of the essential 12 instead of some of the individual characters who wore them. Though for Robin and Batgirl, it definitely leans more towards Dick and Babs.
