In the comics he "only" killed half the universe too. He did it there to impress Mistress Death.

Yeah, but killing half the universe wasn't his *goal,* is the thing. As you said, he was just trying to impress Mistress Death when he did that, since his actual goal was to prove himself worthy of her love. He wasn't doing that to try and help *life,* like his cinematic counterpart was.

Captain Marvel: "Why can't my comics sell like this movie?"

    Fury: "..."

Sometime, after the Captain Marvel movie ends:

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck wake up to find themselves strapped tightly in steel chairs in a dark room.

    Anna: "Ryan?"

Ryan: "Anna? Where the hell are we?"

Fury: "Nowhere anyone can find you. You see, I have some feelings on how you choose to represent me in the Captain Marvel film. Let's start with the cat. Are you f&*(ing kidding me?"

    Anna and Ryan: *gulp*

Robin Hood : Wow all these movies about me, okay someone out there really has a thing for me don't they? I wonder should I be worried? Seems like I should be worried. Yep I should defiantly be worried, I might have a stalker.

The Physical Embodiment of Hollywood ( creepy expression ) : oh my gosh there he is . I just love how the light shines off his skin. He's so dreamy. Okay time to write another Robin Hood fan fiction and making it into a movie .

    Should he be worried?
    Why? ...All perfectly reasonable representations.

LOL! Poor Robin Hood would lose his mind seeing all these outrageous interpretations!
    Similarly:

    Hercules, / Maciste
    King Arthur,
    Hamlet,
    D'Artagnan and Three Musketeers,
    Holmes,
    Tarzan
Zorro (to my surprise has a surprising lot if you count movie serials, cartoons, and many international interpretations),
Dracula, (might have the most, and shocking reaction ?
Godzilla, Santa, Jesus? ....and other legends, have all been run through a similarly outrageous^ gauntlet of re-imaginings, in movies and TV, that might leave the originals scratching their head.

Id love to see the numbers on which single character has actually generated the most films, TV, cartoons, etc. incarnations.
Also where Batman, Superman and Spider-Man currently lie on that list.

King Arthur:....I did a lot more things between the sword and the battle of Camlenn. Why does no one focus on that?
There is no "overkill". There is only "open fire" and "I need to reload.".

I like to think the 90s was the time when comics hit puberty. They’d grown out of being endearing but hadn’t yet figured out where to channel their emotions to not be utterly whiny cocks. -Beadle

Yes, but remember that time when you became a fish! ....?

PreDisney King Arthur: What Thee F, No! This never happened! ?

No, that would be completley inaccurate and silly! Of course it never happened!

    Watching JOKER:

Joker: "...I actually like this. I mean, they try to make me a sympathetic character and everything."

Batman: "I don't remember Gotham being this bad..."

    Joker: "What? They think spoilers:
I'm related to that fop, Bruce Wayne
end of spoilers? (bursts into Joker laugh) Now, that's great comedy! (grows silent) I'd sue for defamation of character, but that's the trouble with multiple-choice pasts; I can't remember whether or not this really happened."

Batman: "Well, I highly doubt you'd have lived this long if you actually had Fleck's health issues."

Joker: "I mean, I'd blow the studio up just for laughs, but then there won't be a JOKER 2..."

Batman: (Batglare) "Not on my watch. Now pipe down and watch the movie."

Joaquin Phoenix: "I'll tell you what you get! You get WHAT YOU FUCKING DESERVE!!"

    Joker: "And there we go!"

Batman: (stares in horror as he watches spoilers:
his parents about to be murdered
end of spoilers) "Oh, God, I hate when they do this..."

Joker: "What do you mean? Who is that kid, anyway?"

    Batman: (KOs Joker)

I just want to see Goku unironically enjoying Dragon Ball Evolution.

Or a pair of very confused Captain Marvels who bumped into each other and got their tickets switched. Yes I know one is Shazam. I don't care.

    Lex Luthor
    Superman : "Yes."
    Superman II: "Yes."
Batman V Superman: "Wait, that is supposed to be me?"
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

I think there was some fun twitter exchange between them (two actors) acknowledging they would gladly see the other's film.
