This reminds me of that encyclopedia Archie comics put out a few years ago (that was then made pointless after they rebooted their continuity).

I feel like Marv Wolfman and George Perez did something similar for DC.

They did I believe, an illustrated text book, nicely done for the DC mythos to that point

I liked it a lot because the text format read nicely

I don't think comic strip works for this idea generally, but it might
