Jason Todd is alive...but does he have a life?

After being dead for seventeen years (real time), Jason Todd has now been alive again for fourteen years, and has gained enough popularity in his comeback that he's likely not to return to the dirt nap any time in the foreseeable future.

But even though Jason is alive, does he have a life? Even more so than the other Bat-crusaders (Bruce, Dick, Tim, Damian, etc.), Jason truly seems to have no life outside of his vigilante activities. He has had no meaningful relationships outside of his vigilante activities, and no real long-term goal to strive towards beyond one vigilante mission after another. He has nothing resembling a normal life anywhere on his radar. His former mentor and fellow Robins all, to some degree, have lives beyond their crimefighting roles, or a dream of one day leaving it all behind, however unrealistic. Jason has nothing of that nature.

It would be interesting to explore what Jason thinks about the possibility of a somewhat normal life, beyond his vigilante mission.

I imagine both the circumstances of his death and his resurrection put an end to any hope of a normal life.

In RH:O #32, Jason Todd officially returned when he was announced as the new owner of the Iceberg Lounge on live TV.

So, basically, he's no longer considered legally dead.

I guess owning a business establishment could be considered a small step towards normal life.

If Jason wants to do some side projects--well, the world is his oyster. If he wants to spend all his time ass-kicking, he doesn't seem to feel sorry for himself. One of the great strength of the character.

One thing about Bruce and Jason getting together these days: it seems like Jason is always showing Bruce that he's doing Bruce's job better than Bruce is.

Lobdell realized that and tried to give Jason a life outside the costume, even introducing Isabel as a way to do it, but his plans were derailed first by the crossovers RHATO V1 was part of, and then by being replaced by Tynion who had zero interest on explore that angle of Jason's character.

That said, given recent developments in Outlaw, it would seem that Lobdell has also abandoned the idea of Jason having a life outside vigilantism.
