Default Did Thanos steal Ra’s al Ghul’s gimmick?

The goal of Ra’s and his League or Assassins/Shadows is to keep the earth’s population in check as overpopulation will destroy the environment. They use terrorist attacks and mass destruction to attain their goals. As Ra’s stated in Batman Begins, they utilized plague rats to start the Black Plague and are responsible for Gotham’s financial woes.

In the comics Thanos is in love with Death and is trying to win her favor by killing as many beings as he can. But in the Marvel cinematic universe Thanos is trying to get the Infinity Gauntlet in order to cut the universe’s population by half because he fears that overpopulation will lead to famine, war, and environmental destruction. He’s basically Ra’s on a cosmic scale.

    Not exactly.

In the MCU, Thanos's goals is the preservation of civilization, more so than the environment. In the DCU, Ra's al Ghul is often depicted as caring less about the civilizations spanning the world over the environment itself (when writers even remember to use that part of his lore). I think it's a fundamental difference, which is especially needed when the League of Assassin is compared to the League of Shadows and Leviathan :

-The LoA is out there to create a pristine world, and if civilization has to fall and humans to return to a pre-historical level of technology and society, then so be it
-The League of Shadows wants to kill and kill, without much of a care beyond creating chaos because they think it'll create a better world, somehow, but the environmentalist approach is a lot weaker
-Leviathan wants to destroy the current order, but to create a whole new civilization, where Talia would rule over everyone (at least so far)
