    Default Supergirl #29 SPOILERS

So this is actually a pretty important issue for Bendis' whole Rogal Zaar saga.

Kara, Starlord, and Krypto are frolicking by a lake. We get Starlord's backstory, he was orphaned and adopted Gandelo (the crystal woman in the Circle) when Krypto finds the last gem of Appa Ali Apsa's holographic will. Zaar's axe activates it and we get the backstory of the Circle. They started as kind of a Illuminati-esq group to try to keep peace in the galaxy. But Gandelo started taking more and more extreme measures behind their back, killing entire planets. Eventually they recruited Zaar to be a front basically for more extreme measures to control the galaxy. He was a fake warlord they sent to keep the peace basically. Zaar is confirmed to be the last of his race (throwing a little cold water on the hybrid theories, but I wouldn't say closing that door completely) but his hatred of Krypton isn't explained.

Gandelo stole the tech used by Zaar in Man of Steel from Zor El and gave it to Zaar to utilize to destroy Krypton on the condition that he become loyal to her only. So it is confirmed that Zaar did in fact cause Krypton's destruction and that he did so with Gandelo's help. The Circle fractured and disbanded after that.

A cult of Zaar attacks Kara, they battle for a bit, but once Kara pulls out Zaar's axe the cult kneel's and swears loyalty to her. Gandalo then appears, kills everyone in the cult and we're set for a face off between Kara and her.

Supergirl continues to do more to advance the Zaar plot than the main Superman titles. Jor El doesn't appear to have any connection to Zaar as of yet, though Zor El inadvertently aided in the destruction of Krypton. Should be interesting to see where this goes before tying back into the Unity Saga.

The Circle seems to be set up as a flawed prototype of the United Planets, with a counsel of people trying to solve problems and keep the peace. Though acting as a cabal and in secret seems to have doomed them.

Finished it, this continues to be a really strong series. I hope it keeps going after the Rogal Zaar crossover coming up, I like Kara’s adventures in space with Krypto.

It was a solid issue IMO. Nothing great but nothing bad either. I enjoyed it.
