Default The answer to 1984 is...equilibrium?!

    Yup.

    Orwell's 1984.

Into this despotic sh!thole is dropped one man, a Grammaton Cleric going by the name of John Preston, the walking Ministry of Destruction.

    His job?

Put a bullet in Big Brother's head, just as he did to Father, the "Big Brother" of his own world.

John starts out with a pair of modified Barettas, but is free to use whatever he wants along the way.

Can John Preston crash the system of 1984?

It's not clear if Big Brother even exists. Even if he does, the bureaucracy that controls 1984 would just replace him. 1984 isn't ruled by one man, it is ruled by an oligarchy of fanatical bureaucrats who may or may not have a replaceable figurehead, or may just have an actor doing propaganda videos, it's actually moot. They eventually beat Cleric, even if they have to drop a huge bomb to do it.

The fanatical bureaucrats who control 1984verse don't have the resources of Father, but they are far more competent and PIS-free. They also rule over a populace that is far less prone to uprising on any kind of mass scale.

Just means Preston will need more bullets. Assuming he can pick them up along the way, can he do the job?

No, they drop a huge bomb on him, or gas him, or beat him in any number of boring but effective methods.

Going with MichaelC's idea, here. PIS off, there's no way they're going to just keep sending more men for him to shoot full of holes. They'll just deal with him through more efficient means, problem solved.

Preston is exceptionally good at reading people, based on what they show. His instincts are his best advantage against a normal tyrant.
Unfortunately, it is not entirely clear if he was actually tricked right before he went to kill Father or if that was actually his plan so it is hard to say how fallible he actually is there.
But, The Party has layers and layers and layers of subterfuge stacked upon each other.
I doubt he ever makes a true dent. Most likely he gets rebranded as a new Goldstein or maybe that is who they say he is?
Either way, alone, he becomes an unperson or becomes Goldstein.
