I loved that while all the books were separate in tone and premise they were cohesive and felt all in the same universe/world/moment (thanks in large to Claremont). I loved that Storytelling across the board was very consistent. And visually, they were illustrated by the now considered "masters" of the field.
I loved that they didn't take themselves too seriously, that they delivered pure high-fantasy escapism without trying to mimic real-world/moralistic sensibilities.
I loved that they were character-driven stories rather than Story-driven characters.
