They're a mutant superhero team who capitalized on both the reality TV craze as well as the sudden "hipness" of being a mutant (mutant culture became a thing during Morrison's era and people began to idolize/want to be mutants).

That's wonderful news! X-Force/X-Statix was one of the reason I went back to Marvel. Milligan and Allred's Genius (madness) turned the X-world on its head! Glad to see them back for more fun !
It was an exciting time in the beginning of the 00's with X-Force, Morrison's New X-Men, Bendis's Daredevil and all those great miniseries (Banner, Unstable molecules, Tangled Web...).
