This could be an example of my painting with a broad brush, but I've been of the opinion that a goodly number of climate change deniers are people in their 50's, 60's and older (and, sadly, that includes politicians), people who have zero interest in the long term survival of the planet for the dirt simple reason that they won't be around to see the disasters come home to roost. "Trump dismisses need for climate change action: ‘We have the cleanest water we’ve ever had, we have the cleanest air’"

""Donald Trump has again dismissed the need to tackle climate change by saying the US has the cleanest air and water “ever”.

Defending his decision to withdraw the US from the Paris Climate Accord, Mr Trump denied he was “ignoring” the problem but claimed that trying to take action on global warming would affect the American economy.

“We have the best numbers we’ve ever had recently, and I’m not looking to put our companies out of business,” he said. “I’m not looking to create a standard that is so high that we’re going to lose 20 to 25 per cent of our production.”

The president has previously described climate change as a “hoax” and dismissed the problem as a “change in the weather”.

In previous interviews and on campaign rallies he has claimed the US has “among the cleanest climates”.

Earlier this week vice-president Mike Pence, when asked if climate change was a threat, said “America has the cleanest air and water in the world”.

"Heat Wave: Record Breaking Temperatures to Bake Central, Eastern US"

"Tens of millions of Americans will swelter through the hottest weather of the summer over the next few days as a record-breaking heat wave builds across much of the central and eastern U.S.

"A dangerous and widespread summer heat wave is expected through this upcoming weekend across much of the central and eastern U.S.," the National Weather Service said. "A large dome of high pressure will allow high temperatures to surge into the 90s and 100s in many locations, while heat indices will top 100 and approach 110 degrees or higher."

In all, over 104 million Americans live where some level of heat alert is in effect, according to the weather service. And a total of 290 million will see high temperatures of at least 90 degrees at some point in the next week, BAM Weather meteorologist Ryan Maue tweeted.

Some record highs are also forecast to be broken this week, including in Philadelphia; Newark, New Jersey; Manchester, New Hampshire; and Atlantic City, New Jersey, according to AccuWeather.

Factoring in the heat index, temperatures will be even more brutal: "Friday will be suffocating across much of the eastern U.S., with the heat index 100 degrees to 110 degrees from the Plains to the Great Lakes and the Middle-Atlantic to NYC," Maue tweeted."

Though aj is right, the first priority is destroying this brand of Republicanism. I'm totally cool with a Kasich-like version re-emerging, but this toxic brand has to go.
It's insane how many were taken over by Trumpism, which is more of a cult of personality that a political party. Trump's views can change on a dime if he needs to, or just forgets what his views are, or are supposed to be to feed the base.

Trump's racism has seen his approval numbers among Republicans rise. (Those same numbers dive down for everyone else.)

That says everything that needs to be said about the modern GOP.

Such a distrust of science has been pushed to fight back against evolution and threats to their religion, and it has been taken advantage of by others who realize such willful ignorance can be weaponized to benefit them politically. Fear of the end of the world doesn't exist if you think you're going straight to heaven.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say folks in Flint, Michigan would disagree with that statement about the water.

A heat wave alert was just issued for the Philadelphia region about an hour ago as temps will be at least in the 90's through Sunday with Saturday expected to be the worst of the lot at 100 with a heat index reaching 115.

I don't think it's that. Basically it's America where the issue is so controversial, other countries concede to the majority of scientists. I'm convinced that it's because we're so divided politically these days that some folks look at the issue as, "Hmm if those liberals feel one way about something then I'll take the opposite stance!"

    My two cents:

I'm a registered Democrat (although I don't give a damn about party. With politics, its choosing the lesser of two evils.) .

That being said, I'm seriously getting tired of these Democrat ladies whining about being a woman, demanding equal rights, but screaming 'racism' left and right expecting special treatment, "I hate Trump," etc. That's all they talk about. Where are their actual accomplishments? At least Trump has them. They're practically giving Trump (who I can't stand even more) the next win on a silver platter Many Americans don't care about the PC Police.

Trump complains about the media? They're doing him a favor by putting the spotlight on the wrong crowd. Where's the group that is working on genuinely trying to fix things?

I wish there was a party that was in the middle. Tired of extreme left vs extreme right.
