The "both sides are just as bad" argument was used to decrease voter turnout amongst progressives who might vote Democrat -- the anti-Sanders DNC email leaks being a primary example of this. They promoted a split within the party that they are still taking advantage of on various message board forums -- it's pretty much the same thing I saw play out last election, only there are more players this time around.

To this day, you still have people on the left who claim Hillary is "just as bad" as Trump because she's a "corporate" Democrat and the same narrative is being promoted about "moderate" Biden in those same circles.
I see it a little differently. Both sides are just as bad is a belief that many Americans have had for years, it's why we have had such low voter turn out for decades. Russian bots weren't pushing a we need more progressive policies narrative, they were pushing the Hillary had a stroke fake news stuff. Jill Stein being semi-popular or talking about healthcare doesn't hurt political discourse in this country, but making the discussion about pedos in restaurants does.

Impeach Trump. But don’t necessarily try him in the Senate.

But to think of the House of Representatives as akin to a prosecutor or grand jury is misguided. The Constitution’s design suggests a quite different allocation of functions: The Senate, unlike any petit (or trial) jury, is legally free to engage in politics in arriving at its verdict. And the House, unlike any grand jury, can conduct an impeachment inquiry that ends with a verdict and not just a referral to the Senate for trial — an inquiry in which the target is afforded an opportunity to participate and mount a full defense.

Take, for instance, the 1974 investigation of President Richard M. Nixon when the House gave the president the opportunity to refute the charges against him either personally or through counsel and with additional fact witnesses. (Nixon chose to appear only through his attorney, James D. St. Clair.) Following its impeachment proceedings, the House Judiciary Committee drafted particularized findings less in the nature of accusations to be assessed by the Senate — which of course never weighed in, given Nixon’s resignation — than in the nature of determinations of fact and law and verdicts of guilt to be delivered by the House itself, expressly stating that the president was indeed guilty as charged.
It seems fair to surmise, then, that an impeachment inquiry conducted with ample opportunity for the accused to defend himself before a vote by the full House would be at least substantially protected, even if not entirely bullet-proofed, against a Senate whitewash.

The House, assuming an impeachment inquiry leads to a conclusion of Trump’s guilt, could choose between presenting articles of impeachment even to a Senate pre-committed to burying them and dispensing with impeachment as such while embodying its conclusions of criminality or other grave wrongdoing in a condemnatory “Sense of the House” resolution far stronger than a mere censure. The resolution, expressly and formally proclaiming the president impeachable but declining to play the Senate’s corrupt game, is one that even a president accustomed to treating everything as a victory would be hard-pressed to characterize as a vindication. (A House resolution finding the president “impeachable” but imposing no actual legal penalty would avoid the Constitution’s ban on Bills of Attainder, despite its deliberately stigmatizing character as a “Scarlet ‘I’ ” that Trump would have to take with him into his reelection campaign.)

The people who claim both sides are just as bad are idiots, but the Democrats aren't really helping themselves by constantly running to the right and making themselves into GOP-lite on many issues. Democrats need to realize that America is divided not because of Trump, but because there are different groups of people with competing interests that cannot be reconciled. If Republicans are going all out pushing for the interests of their side, and Democrats are calling for unity and compromise, then who is speaking out for our side?

So to sum up, in a state with approaching 10 million people, with a democratic governor, in which in the last election voters voted overwhelming democrat. If conservatives can get 34,000 people to sign on to a petition (approximately 4% of an electorate) they can get a veto proof ban on abortions after 6 weeks, despite our state being 54% pro choice?!

The system is fucked! And Republicans, and those that support them don't give a **** about democracy!
They're using an existing law in a novel way. It wouldn't surprise me if the courts vote it down in the future.

Just a reminder, this is the person Cruz came to the defense of.

This is a weak argument, since Crowder wasn't demonitized on Youtube for comments he made on Twitter.

It avoid the best argument for booting Crowder, that he was using Youtube to mock a gay writer.

Farewell then, iTunes, and thanks for saving the music industry from itself

Last Monday, at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, the company’s head of software engineering, Craig Federighi, announced that it was terminating iTunes. In one way, the only surprising thing was that Apple had taken so long to reach that decision. It’s been obvious for years that iTunes had become baroquely bloated, a striking anomaly for a company that prides itself on elegant and functional design. So the decision to split the software into three functional units – dealing with music, podcasts and TV apps – seemed both logical and long overdue. But for internet users d’un certain âge (including this columnist) the announcement triggered reflections on personal and tech history.

I agree with much of this. It's part of the reason I have problems with Biden. Not talking about policies but running around saying **** millennials and declaring his love for Dick Cheney isn't going to win over moderates/independents and it hurts Democrats.

Look at it this way, the GOP propaganda machine came out hard against Sanders, Warren, AOC because their ideas actually connect with some of the American people. The GOP has been just chillin' since Biden took the lead in the polls cuz they know Trump can actually beat him.

Do you have a few examples in how Hillary C. ran to the right in her 2016 campaign so those things can be avoided in the future?

    Just to make sure.

24,000 pounds of garbage were just removed from Mount Everest, leading to the discovery of 4 dead bodies

The Nepalese government has removed just over 24,000 pounds of trash from Mount Everest, according to The Associated Press. During their cleanup of the world's highest mountain, cleaners also uncovered four dead bodies.

Among the 11 tons of recovered trash from the 45-day project are food wrappers, cans, bottles and empty oxygen cylinders, Tourism Department official Danduraj Ghimire said. Cleaning up the mountain has been extremely difficult due to unpredictable weather conditions, inaccessibility of certain areas and the inherent dangers involved.

Ghimire said the four dead bodies were found by the cleaners in melting snow and were taken to base camp before being flown to a hospital in the capital for identification, AP reports. None of the bodies have been identified and it is not known when they died.
According to AP, officials said the mission has been "successful," but that some of the trash still covered by snow will need to be collected once temperatures rise. Additionally, 300 climbers have died on Everest since 1953, but officials are unsure of how many bodies are still on the mountain.

While the exact amount of garbage on the mountain is unknown, climbers report that human excrement, used oxygen bottles, torn tents, ropes, broken ladders, cans and plastic wrappers litter the slopes from decades of climbing, according to Reuters.

This could potentially be the busiest climbing season on record — increasing the risk of death and the amount of trash left behind.

With at least 11 people losing their lives, this has been the deadliest climbing season on Mount Everest since 2015. Nepal issued 381 permits — the highest number ever — which has contributed to the chaos on the mountain and the excessive amount of trash.

Going back home from Memphis through Missouri just drives home that I take my state for granted, as much as I crap on it. All over Interstate 55, there's Young Earth Creationism and pro-fetus billboards everywhere.

    And Boomland. Especially Boomland.

That's a solid question -- and one of the main problems with having what is essentially a two-party system.

Personally, I think progressives need to do better in the midterms before the argument can be made that the entire country is ready for the "progressive agenda" -- few of those proposals are going to become law unless they have support in both the House and the Senate.
