Frankly, I doubt any lasting change can take place in that region without some sort of catastrophic event. We're talking about changing century old paradigms and that sort of thing only happens when an entire structure is smashed and rebuilt from the ground up.

You sure about that? Your premise implies that elected officials are only doing what they do because its lucrative. And whos definition of public good are we going by?

Afghanistan has not been like this for centuries.

    This is Kabul in 1972:

That is why I said Also Kabul 1972 not that it didn't exist just that it was not a real depiction of what Afghanistan was like in. I've been there, the picture you posted is real is just that in not what the majority of women where like.

The point is that the women were free to do that, they went to school, they studied. That there was diversity in the society does not change that, it makes it even more amazing.

Commerce Chief Threatened Firings at NOAA After Trump’s Hurricane Tweets, Sources Say

WASHINGTON — The Secretary of Commerce threatened to fire top employees at NOAA on Friday after the agency’s Birmingham office contradicted President Trump’s claim that Hurricane Dorian might hit Alabama, according to three people familiar with the discussion.

That threat led to an unusual, unsigned statement later that Friday by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration disavowing the office’s own position that Alabama was not at risk. The reversal caused widespread anger within the agency and drew criticism from the scientific community that NOAA, a division of the Commerce Department, had been bent to political purposes.

Officials at the White House and the Commerce Department declined to comment on administration involvement in the NOAA statement.

It blows my mind that this story refuses to die, and all because Trump got that forecast wrong and NOAA bent over backwards to placate him instead supporting the Birmingham office.

that and Soviet occupation that met resistance followed by a decade of civil war that let the Taliban take control in the 90's and implement it own laws has a little to do with it too.

Pres. Trump had to cancel his planned tour of Hurricane Dorian damage because of thunderstorms in Fayetteville, NC. This was a lightning strike behind Air Force One shortly after he arrived. (The shot from the very wet pool crew of Orly Ruiz, Michael Wade Sanders and Liz Turrell)
Updating the location of the picture to Havelock, North Carolina. (And for those asking, the bolt is behind the plane.)
