So the Oregon republicans who ran and hide with a white nationalist militia look to be getting their way.

    https://www.vox.com/2019/6/25/187585...-cap-and-trade

State senate democrats are now saying that they never had the votes for the bill so the walkout was just a political stunt. Either way, a huge victory for the far right. Even with a super majority the Oregon Democrats are still at the mercy of the republicans.

Rewarding not just bad but cowardly behavior. Something has to be done to prevent that sort of circus from happening in the future.

An 11-year-old boy on Friday was able to hack into a replica of the Florida state election website and change voting results found there in under 10 minutes during the world’s largest yearly hacking convention, DEFCON 26, organizers of the event said.
Thousands of adult hackers attend the convention annually, while this year a group of children attempted to hack 13 imitation websites linked to voting in presidential battleground states.
The boy, who was identified by DEFCON officials as Emmett Brewer, accessed a replica of the Florida secretary of state’s website. He was one of about 50 children between the ages of 8 and 16 who were taking part in the so-called “DEFCON Voting Machine Hacking Village,” a portion of which allowed kids the chance to manipulate party names, candidate names and vote count totals.
Don't worry. I'm sure those close elections in Florida are totally fine.

Renowned expert on the American far-right, author David Neiwert who wrote on the Japanese interment in 'Strawberry Days', had this to say on the 'concentration camp debate'.
We've done it throughout history. We stole land from Native Americans and murdered them relentlessly, and called it "Manifest Destiny." We lynched thousands of African Americans under the rubric of an imagined threat of rape and called it "defending white womanhood," while driving out thousands more from our communities and calling it "defending our way of life." The violent ethnic cleansing in which hundreds of black people were brutally murdered en masse and driven out of their homes and the centers of prosperity they built were euphemistically described as “race riots.”
And we put 120,000 people behind barbed wire under armed guard and called it a "relocation center." Nowadays, we have a new name for it: the "family detention center" or, better still, the utterly neutral "residential center." Once again, the arrest policies filling these “detention centers” are race-based, as they have been since at least 2006.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the right’s favorite lightning rod, brought the old debate roaring back to the national discourse last week when she tweeted her view that the current immigrant detention centers on the border where families are being separated and children are being held in cages are in fact concentration camps. Predictably, the right erupted in outrage that she dared compare official American behavior overseen by Donald Trump to the monstrous genocidal factories of the Nazi German regime in the 1930s and ‘40s, with Rep. Liz Cheney leading the charge.

Father-daughter border drowning highlights migrants’ perils

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The man and his 23-month-old daughter lay face down in shallow water along the bank of the Rio Grande, his black shirt hiked up to his chest with the girl tucked inside. Her arm was draped around his neck suggesting she clung to him in her final moments.

The searing photograph of the sad discovery of their bodies on Monday, captured by journalist Julia Le Duc and published by Mexican newspaper La Jornada, highlights the perils faced by mostly Central American migrants fleeing violence and poverty and hoping for asylum in the United States.

And you didn't originally say that "Not every Democrat is a saint." You insinuated they are ALL dirty, which is part of the thinking that got people voting 3rd party instead of Clinton. It's also patently untrue.
Let's roll tape on if anything like that ever actually happened...

I'd like to believe that's the case, but history indicates otherwise. Until campaign finance laws change, it's safer to assume everyone in Washington is in the pocket of their highest donor.
Since where the whole thing started was, "The lack of politicians running to create change in the Senate points to that they are in it for a career and not actually making things better for voters...", no one was ever actually talking about actual corruption to start with.

What ChadH said, is "It is safer to believe that they are all potentially being influenced by high dollar donors rather than the desire to actually look out for the voters." Which is still an absolutely safe assumption that makes no accusation that everyone involved is dirty. It's a simple statement about the reality of the system they are a part of.

    Again, he was exactly right.

Matter of fact, let's just take a minute to look at the reality of things...

    - You've got Samantha Bee wondering out loud why Democratic politicians won't potentially damage their careers in an attempt to create a lay of the land where they could look out for the voters interest.

    - On the other hand, you've got this reality...

DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz Helpfully Illustrates Everything Bernie Sanders Hates About the Democratic Establishment
According to a memo obtained by the Huffington Post, Wasserman Schultz is trying to rally congressional Democrats around a bill that would delay the CFPB’s new rules for two years and nullify those rules in any state that adopts its own payday-lending law, like the DNC chair’s own home state of Florida.

The key thing about such state laws is that they’re likely to be much kinder to the profits of payday lenders than what the CFPB is crafting. In Florida, the average interest rate on a payday loan is still 304 percent, according to Pew Charitable Trusts. What’s more, 76 percent of all payday loans in the state are turned loans — loans taken out to pay back another loan — according to Americans for Financial Reform. Thus, Florida’s law has left the highly profitable vicious cycle of payday borrowing intact.

Of course, Big Consumer is lining up to oppose Wasserman Schultz’s legislation. The Consumer Federation of America, the NAACP, the National Council of La Raza, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and hundreds of others have signed a letter to Congress condemning the bill. But the DNC chair is taking a principled stand against those lobbyists.

“The Congresswoman wants to work with the CFPB on the way forward, and believes the Florida law is an example of how to achieve their shared goals of balancing strong consumer protections with preserving access to credit in underserved communities,” Wasserman Schultz’s spokesperson, Sean Bartlett, told the Huffington Post.

With such brave legislators leading the Democratic Party, it’s difficult to understand how Bernie Sanders can get so mad at the “Establishment.”

If a party is putting that sort of a person into a leadership role at the DNC, what reason does a person have to believe that they are not all potentially someone who can be corrupted?

While no one is saying they are all crooked, they have done anything but buy the benefit of the doubt.

The founding principle of America has always been to dick over minorities so that white people could live comfortably, and there was never a point where that stopped or even slowed down really, it's just slightly less obvious than it used to be. Even the Nazis marveled at how efficiently America was able to marginalize non-whites while maintaining a veneer of legality and civility.

Just going to point out that this is coming up. Doesn't really feel like it's common knowledge, and there are obviously a couple of other things happening that will probably chew up a lot of the news coverage...

Flint water crisis prosecutors will give update to residents
Prosecutors heading up the Flint water crisis criminal investigation will meet with city residents this week.

Friday’s town hall meeting will give residents a chance to better understand why prosecutors decided to drop charges against the remaining defendants in the water crisis probe.

And remember, there was the very real possibility for a while that the US would enter the war on the side of the Nazis. Hitler and his message was (and remains) incredibly popular. *sigh*
