Both men figure to be more crotchety and just plain desperate since this figures to be their last shot at the presidency, so the kid glove will be off big time.

All right. Fair enough. But I still say that cafes and other restaurants that won't cater gay weddings should say so in their advertising and in a sign in the front of their restaurant. If they have such "sincerely held beliefs," then be completely open about it. But of course, they don't want to do that out of fear that straight allies of the LGBTQ community will boycott. God forbid we let the free market do what the free market is supposed to do, right?

Why is it always that the people who cry the most about their rights and liberties being violated are just using that as an excuse to violate the rights and liberties of others? Sure, refusing to bake a cake is probably the most innocuous form of "protest" that the anti-LGBT folks have, but if they get their way on this that will only embolden them to try and claw back further gains that society has made in the last few decades.

Adam Schiff On China's Oppression Of Uyghur Muslim Minority

More than 1 million Muslims have been detained in China under a digital authoritarian regime—and Representative Adam Schiff is urging the U.S. to take action.

“Imagine a world in which your every move is surveilled by the government,” he said. “This may sound like a dystopian novel, but for millions of Chinese citizens, this is reality.”

Oh, Lovely: The Tick That Gives People Meat Allergies Is Spreading

First comes the unscratchable itching, and the angry blossoming of hives. Then stomach cramping, and—for the unluckiest few—difficulty breathing, passing out, and even death. In the last decade and a half, thousands of previously protein-loving Americans have developed a dangerous allergy to meat. And they all have one thing in common: the lone star tick.

Red meat, you might be surprised to know, isn’t totally sugar-free. It contains a few protein-linked saccharides, including one called galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose, or alpha-gal, for short. More and more people are learning this the hard way, when they suddenly develop a life-threatening allergy to that pesky sugar molecule after a tick bite.

Yep, one bite from the lone star tick—which gets its name from the Texas-shaped splash of white on its back—is enough to reprogram your immune system to forever reject even the smallest nibble of perfectly crisped bacon. For years, physicians and researchers only reported the allergy in places the lone star tick calls home, namely the southeastern United States. But recently it’s started to spread. The newest hot spots? Duluth, Minnesota, Hanover, New Hampshire, and the eastern tip of Long Island, where at least 100 cases have been reported in the last year.

1 killed, 3 injured after shooting at California Costco

One person was killed and three others were injured in a shooting inside a Southern California Costco store late Friday.

Police were called to the scene just after 7:45 p.m., according to an online release from the Corona, Calif., police department. Authorities say one person died as a result of their injuries, while three others, including an off-duty police officer, were taken to local hospitals in unknown conditions.
An unidentified man was taken into custody in connection with the shooting, which reportedly stemmed from an argument inside the big-box store, according to CNN. Lt. Jeff Edwards of the Corona police said the relationship between the victims and the alleged gunman was not immediately clear, CNN reported.

Edwards said the incident isn’t believed to be a domestic dispute.

The GOP are their own worst enemies

GOP in disarray as budget impasse threatens shutdown, deep cuts — and default

Senate Republicans and the Trump administration are struggling to reach an agreement on a path forward on critical budget and spending issues, threatening not only another government shutdown and deep spending cuts but a federal default that could hit the economy hard.

GOP leaders have spent months cajoling President Trump in favor of a bipartisan budget deal that would fund the government and raise the limit on federal borrowing this fall, but their efforts have yet to produce a deal. And the uncertain path forward was underscored a few days ago at the Capitol, when a budget meeting between key Senate Republicans, including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), and senior White House officials left out Democrats, whose votes will be imperative to avoid a shutdown and an economy-shaking breach of the federal debt limit.

“We’re negotiating with ourselves right now,” said Senate Appropriations Chairman Richard C. Shelby (R-Ala.). “The president, the administration, has some views, maybe, that are a little different sometimes than the Senate Republicans have. So we’re trying to see if we can be together as best we can.”
“True to form, Congress and the White House seem to be intent on waiting until the absolute last minute to address all these issues that we’ve known about,” said Maya MacGuineas, president of the nonpartisan, nonprofit Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. “Basically everything they could do wrong, they are doing wrong.”

Tensions between key Senate Republicans and White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney have been on display for months, and GOP lawmakers and aides partially blame that frayed relationship for the halting pace of talks. Mulvaney was a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus before he joined the administration, first as White House budget director before becoming acting chief of staff, and he has advocated dramatic spending cuts opposed by lawmakers of both parties.

Mulvaney has been slow to come around to the need for a bipartisan budget deal that would raise domestic and military spending caps, even after McConnell met privately with Trump last month and got the president’s blessing to proceed with such a deal, said a senior GOP Senate aide who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private conversations.

Let's see if the media hammers the 'GOP in disarray' angle like they do their favorite 'DEms in disarray' one.

Sanctioning China over this would probably be the worst thing that could happen to the Uighurs. The Chinese government will just blame them for the resulting economic fallout and crack down on them even harder. I just can't think of a single example where well-meaning advocacy on behalf of an oppressed minority group overseas has actually worked, these governments inevitably interpret any activism as an American plot to undermine their power and double down on the repression.

To put this in perspective, just imagine that there were Chinese activists calling for the US to be punished for police brutality or the migrant crisis, how much credibility would that have with you?

Oh hey. That gun death quote about Ilhan Omar and the frame that was 'exaggering' or 'inaccurate'... turns out she meant 500 gun deaths a day /world wide/, which is accurate. Maybe folks shouldn't be so quick to accept the 'accurate statistics' from the people criticizing her.

When she is making law for the entire planet, that will actually matter.

Otherwise the actual text of her tweet is the issue...

"Supporting my colleagues’ call on Senate Majority Leader to vote on H.R. 8, 1112 & 1158. Gun violence is an epidemic. Every day on average 500 people die from gun violence. How many more lives will we let gun violence claim?"
If you are a member of the United States Congress who is citing worldwide numbers without specifically addressing that they are indeed worldwide numbers, you are only making things harder for everyone who is trying to actually get even some basic changes to United States gun laws accomplished.

Again, dotting "I"s and crossing "T"s.

Even her spokesperson gets the actual reality...

Omar’s spokesman, Jeremy Slevin, defended Omar’s use of the 500 figure. But he acknowledged to us that Omar’s tweet was in the context of domestic legislation and that the reference to 500 could have been more precise.

Anything to critcize a woman in politics, as usual from 30. Her quote was accurate. She just didn't say 'worldwide', but as usual, you're quick to accept a right-wing frame for criticizing her in your effort for concern trolling.

In a world where folks getting in the way of things are using "Fake News" in order to do so, it is up to anyone actually trying make even incremental progress in that context to be right and lay out specifics.

It's not an even remotely high bar to clear, and it takes one more thing that the folks getting in the way of making any progress can use when they try to sandbag progress.
