    "Civility."

    -----
"The “MAGA Bomber” who mailed explosives to President Donald Trump’s critics turned violent on a steady diet of Fox News, Trump tweets, and Facebook, his lawyers claim.

Cesar Sayoc, 57, previously pleaded guilty to sending 16 pipe bombs to news outlets and public figures in October. On social media, Sayoc promoted far-right conspiracy theories and threatened people who were critical of Trump. He faces life in prison for the mail bombings.

But Sayoc’s lawyers argue he was just a man struggling with “cognitive limitations and mental illness” who was manipulated by conservative media and the president’s Twitter feed.

Isolated and abusing steroids, Sayoc lived a lonely life, his attorneys claimed in a Monday filing.

“By 2018, he was living alone in a decrepit and cramped van that had been his home for more than a decade,” the lawyers wrote. “A typical day saw Mr. Sayoc waking up in his van, showering at the gym, and cooking crockpot meals while inside the DJ booth of a strip club before heading off to his second job delivering pizza. As he grew older and more isolated, excessive steroid use increased his feelings of anxiety and paranoia.

“In this darkness, Mr. Sayoc found light in Donald J. Trump.”

Sayoc watched Fox News “religiously at the gym,” the filing continued. He typically ended his evenings watching Sean Hannity’s show. He also began to feel victimized as a Trump supporter, his lawyers wrote. On Facebook, he shared posts about supposed attacks on Trump supporters. When his van was vandalized, he believed it was the work of “anti-Trump forces [that] were trying to hurt him.”

Sayoc’s lawyers pinned some of the blame on Trump. “He began to consider Democrats as not just dangerous in theory, but imminently and seriously dangerous to his personal safety,” they wrote. “President Trump did nothing to dissuade this message.”

They pointed to multiple instances in which Trump told his followers that Democrats were out to hurt them, including an October 2018 rally when Trump said Democrats “destroy people. They want to destroy people. These are really evil people.”

Sayoc sent the bombs that same month.

A scottish referendum suffers all the same problems as brexit with an even worse outcome frankly.

Ernst just reminding us she is still a jackass.

This is what @SenJoniErnst said after her recent trip to border prisons: “It’s just like Thanksgiving dinner. You make Thanksgiving dinner for your family, maybe 10 people, but a thousand show up at your door expecting Thanksgiving dinner. What do you do?”

Not if the EU says they can join. They will be much better off and take some major industry and finance companies from England.

....except that takes time. Its not exactly like its a one day issue. Meanwhile Scottland suddenly loses the UKs cash resources and has to start financing itself. As for those finance industries whats to say they'll want to stay in Scottland ? Maybe they'll transfer to Ireland or another nation etc.

Its very easy to go "Well they'll join the Eu" but the EU has already made it clear they'll get no preferential treatment and the last nation to join took TEN YEARS. Also Juncker and Co have issues with breakaway nations assuming EU independence as was the case with Catalonia.

Democrats in the way? So you are supporting what Trump is doing? And you agree how bad immigrants are for the country?

    https://www.pbs.org/newshour/economy...he-u-s-economy

In the end you are another Susan Collins, measured response but in the end, just staying in line with the GOP.
With immigration, Democrats are getting in the way with various policies to protect those who came here illegally (IE- sanctuary cities.)

Unlike most Democrats, I support an increase in the number of legal immigrants to the US.

My overall policy preferences would be...
    - An increase in funding for immigration courts so investigations and removals can be quicker.
    - Keeping the number of immigrants applying through family reunification roughly the same.
    - A doubling in the number of skills-based Visas.
    - A doubling in the number of temporary guest worker Visas.
    - A greater emphasis on going after Visa overstays.
    - A pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, and laws making it illegal to help someone pretend to be a student in order to qualify.
    - An amnesty for the other undocumented immigrants that does not include a pathway to citizenship but does include protection from deportation.
    - Financial aid to Mexico to be a safe harbor for those seeking amnesty.
    - Clarification on what merits amnesty so we don't have a situation where some judges declare half of South America to be eligible.
    - A clarification that the census only counts people who are supposed to be here (IE- citizens, legal immigrants) and that trespassers do not count for the purposes of funding public services. This would go into effect after the amnesty deal.

This seems to support the view that the lack of civility is a major problem.

Your reply continues to support the view that you won't admit it's primarily a major Republican problem.

"Both sides" doesn't work when one side elected Obama and the other is now led by someone like Trump.

The avoidance of talking about your Party's position on immigration is astonishing.
And blaming the Dems for things like not helping Dreamers is living in Bizaro World.

When you're covering for an indefensibly racist, criminal, and corrupt organization, your only real defense is to constantly attack, regardless of the facts.

    Just like Trump.

"Research predicted this wave of right-wing domestic terrorism. Republicans tanked the report."

Then-Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) blasted Janet Napolitano for insulting "American citizens who disagree with the direction Washington Democrats are taking our nation.

"Last year, a white-nationalist army veteran was charged with second-degree murder after he drove a car into a group of nonviolent protesters in Charlottesville, Va., killing one and injuring 19. Earlier this month, a far-right-wing army veteran shot and killed two people at a Tallahassee, Fla. yoga studio.

According to a new report posted Sunday by the Washington Post, the yoga studio victims were among at least 20 people who have been killed this year in the United States in suspected right-wing attacks (compared to “just one fatal attack in 2018 that may have been motivated by left-wing ideologies.”) This comes amid an “uptick in right-wing terrorism,” as the report puts it.

The FBI has documented this phenomenon as an increase in hate crimes.

Some of the blame for the rise in right-wing terrorism has been assigned to President Donald Trump’s racist rhetoric and his “both sides” excuses for white nationalism. Some of it may go to his administration’s decision not to fund Countering Violent Extremism programs. But some of it precedes Trump and goes back nearly a decade.

In April 2009, the Obama administration’s Department of Homeland Security released a report warning that this would happen.

“Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” warned that "right-wing extremists may be gaining new recruits by playing on their fears about several emergent issues.” It also predicted that the possibility of new gun restrictions and the return of “military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities” might mean “emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks.”

The report called this convergence of factors the “most dangerous domestic terrorism threat in the United States...”

“Not only was [the report] buried [by Republicans], the actual unit which created it was disemboweled,” said Brian Levin, a professor of criminal justice and the director of the Center for the Study of Hate & Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino to the Center for Public Integrity in 2011.

In the time since, it has become clear that the warnings in the report were indeed warranted. Still, the Trump administration continues to describe terrorism not as Americans with easy access to guns and a poor network of support for mental health challenges, but almost exclusively the work of foreigners, immigrants, and Muslims."

I've been to Thanksgiving dinners that were arguably crimes against humanity.

Not that big a deal. I think we became a little too used to seeing Obama and Biden together because they genuinely liked each other. But historically, Presidents and Vice-Presidents generally don't hang out together. Sometimes it's for political reasons, sometimes for security reasons and sometimes because they really don't get along. Remember, Presidential candidates often choose a former Primary rival as their running mate. Now, we haven't had that particular pairing since 2004, but the other reasons still apply. We shouldn't expect Trump and Pence to appear together that often until it gets much closer to the election.

This one's gonna be a profile, all right...

7 scenes from the Mueller report you need to see, drawn by an illustrator from ‘Archer’
