anyone ever see a couple of screen versions of Caligula? Jay Robinson chewed a lot of that ancient Roman scenery in The Robe and it's sequel, Demetrius and the Gladiators. Then there was the British adaption of I, Claudius that was on PBS years ago. John Hurt was Caligula in that one.

I wasn't saying that. I was acknowledging that you never seem to hesitate to pretend that Trump isn't employing actual Neo-Nazis and white nationalists at the White House, even though it's obvious.

If the doctor taps your knee with a little hammer, do you blurt out excuses for white nationalism from the GOP? You might want to have him check to see.

ICE raids sweep up 680 undocumented immigrants across Mississippi

Immigration enforcement authorities raided food processing plants across Mississippi on Wednesday, picking up 680 workers in what was being billed as the biggest single-day, one-state sweep in U.S. history, officials said.

The raids hit seven plants in six cities, and most of the workers arrested are Latino.

"While we are a nation of immigrants, more than that, first and foremost, we are a nation of laws," said U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst of the Southern District of Mississippi. "They have to come here legally or they shouldn’t come here at all."

Though not really suitable for history purists, the Netflix Roman Empire series covered Caligula's reign pretty well, mixing Game of Thrones esque sequences with talking head commentary. I thought it was interesting that they decided to portray him more as this overprivileged dude bro who just never developed a sense of right and wrong rather than a stark raving lunatic. It was also interesting how succession to the throne basically boiled down to survival of the least fit, because the sitting emperors would go out of their way to eliminate anyone remotely threatening, leaving only the mostly blatantly unqualified candidates who would inevitably take power after the senators or army got sick of listening to the current guy.

I'm not surprised, but not disappointed because I'm always already disappointed and disgusted.

So Trump's first public comments after meeting with victims of the El Paso mass shooting is to call Sherrod Brown a failed presidential candidate who polled at 0%

The Trump Appointee Who’s Putting White Supremacists in Jail

On June 28, in the main courtroom of Charlottesville’s federal courthouse, U.S. Attorney Thomas T. Cullen rose to his feet. It had been nearly two years since white supremacists brawled with counterprotesters at a violence-filled rally nearby; now, standing still and stoic, the tall, lean Cullen addressed the court regarding the sentencing of James Fields Jr. At the rally in August 2017, Fields, 22, had driven his Dodge Challenger into a crowd of peaceful protesters, maiming many and killing one. Having been convicted on federal hate crimes charges, Fields deserved nothing less than life in prison, Cullen argued.

From the courtroom’s wooden benches, Fields’s victims — who had come to testify about their broken bones, broken spirits and broken marriages; their lasting fear of cars, loud noises and even the light of day — listened intently. Never mind the defendant’s age and appeal for mercy, Cullen said. Hadn’t he described those who disagreed with his views as “monkeys,” “subspecies,” “kikes” and more on his social media accounts? Never mind his claim that he’d acted on impulse and without premeditation, that he’d had mental health problems. “We all face mental health issues,” Cullen pointed out, “but troubled people don’t just commit acts of mass murder or domestic terrorism.”

U.S. District Judge Michael Urbanski agreed. Fields stared blankly before him as his sentence was handed down: life in prison without parole. At the prosecution table, Cullen, his face set in its resting scowl, nodded briefly but didn’t look up from the notes he was jotting on his legal pad.
Lets see how long he lasts before Trump gets wind of this.

When you enter someone's home (town), especially after a tragedy, you don't then do this....

When it comes to George W., I think that he is like Reagan in the reality that they seem to have a "This Guy Is A Bonehead..." out when it comes to folks being able to create an "Well..." for putting some of the blame for those things squarely on their respective shoulders.

Contrast it with George W.'s old man. There is almost not "Out" where you could make a case that he was either too dumb to get it or lacked the background to be able to see the potential outcomes when he did things.

#FireTuckerCarlson Trends After Fox News Host Calls Concerns About White Supremacy a 'Hoax'

After Fox News host Tucker Carlson called white supremacy "a hoax" and a "conspiracy theory used to divide the country" on Tuesday, #FireTuckerCarlson started to trend on social media the following day, with many people calling on Fox News to fire the controversial host. His comments came in the wake of recent mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, that left dozens dead.
So who else on Fox are White Supremacists? Just how deep does it go in Fox?

Only problem is; good luck getting actual Americans to replace them. We don't have a job shortage, but a manpower shortage, and the real **** jobs wind up going to undocumented or even legal immigrants since natural citizens find jobs like migrant farming, canneries, street sweeping, and other utilitarian careers beneath them.

It's a vicious cycle we propagate; blame immigrants for "takin' ur jurbs", then complain we're short on people once we deport them.

Trump will sneak them in to work for slave labor wages at his hotels and golf clubs.

A 41-year-old Detroit man deported to Iraq in June died Tuesday, according to the American Civil Liberties Union and two people close the man’s family.
The man, Jimmy Aldaoud, spent most of his life in the U.S., but was swept up in President Donald Trump’s intensified immigration enforcement efforts.

Edward Bajoka, an immigration attorney who described himself as close to Aldaoud’s family, wrote on Facebook that the death appeared to be linked to the man’s inability to obtain insulin in Baghdad to treat his diabetes.
Aldaoud was an Iraqi national, but he was born in Greece and came to the U.S. as a young child, his family friend said. He had never lived in Iraq and did not speak Arabic, according to Bajoka.
“Rest In Peace Jimmy,” Bajoka wrote. “Your blood is on the hands of ICE and this administration.”

And then there was the X-rated Caligula, where he cuts off his enemy's penis and sends the amputated member to his wife as a gift. There was an R-rated version that cut out that sequence (no pun intended).

Well, Laura Ingraham and Sean Hannity, for a start.
