I think you're correct.
Oddly enough the Far Right and Far Left both despised John McCain for similar reasons (being a "tool" of the "Establishment"). I recall being appalled when I watched many political commentary Youtubers on the Far Right and Far Left make "jokes" about McCain being in Hell (Far Right) and them being happy he died (Far Left).
"So you've come to the end now alive but dead inside."
The far right only hates McCain because Trump tells them too. The left at least has reasons to hate McCain that are consistent with the anti-war world view they've expressed all along, whether you agree with that or not. I don't think anyone doubts that he was a driven and courageous man, but that in and of itself doesn't make him a figure to be admired, he also has to have used that energy to further a worthy cause which I'm sure many on the left would strongly dispute.
Actually, I know of several people on the Far Right who hated John McCain long before Trump came along (Michael Savage and Alex Jones spring immediately to mind even Rush Limbaugh said a few nasty things about the Senator before 2015/2016). I think Trump simply exploited hatred which was already there.

Tulsi Gabbard didn't qualify for the next debate and then she ran to Fox News... to be interviewed by Tucker Carlson. What the f**k is she thinking?!

Ummm, the fact that she ran to be interviewed by a guy who has shown a nasty, racist side to him and said white supremacy is a hoax.. you don't see the problem with being connected to that guy?
She couldn't have gone to Shep Smith or Chris Wallace if she wanted airtime on Fox. No, she wanted to go with Carlson there.

The policy appears to be misunderstood. It's more of a procedural clarification regarding the process for applying for citizenship. It's not about children born to U.S. service members and government employees overseas unless you have someone who hadn't resided in the US for a total of five years becoming a parent. It seems to largely apply to adoption and children whose parents became U.S. citizens after the kid was born.
