Trump and Pence have started trying to follow Pompeo's lead now, and repeat the dubious statement (which without evidence and given their track histories, is almost certainly a lie)...

They're trying to do the Iraq War in 2003 again, but without the patriotism or ability to lean on 9-11, considering how the GOP tried to f*** over first responders not even a few weeks ago, and Trump's incessant lies about what he did on 9/11, versus what he actually did. Also, with even less troop readiness or competence, because Trump f***ed up getting out of Afghanistan only last week.

On this date in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, as well as 2018, that "Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day" published profiles of U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, who as a member of the U.S. House, voted against equal pay for women multiple times, insisting that “women don’t want it”. She’s also a co-sponsor of the “Birther Bill”, denies that Mitt Romney ever passed a healthcare program in Massachusetts, and gave an infamous interview where she falsely claimed that the Affordable Care Act (which she also was a part of the “lie of the year” at Polifiact, predicting it would lead to death panels) was a violation of HIPAA, and when asked repeatedly to explain how that’s even possible, she just kept repeating the same falsehood robotically without actually providing any logical answer. She was also a big proponent of the 2013 Government Shutdown, and on the day it began, went on FOX and Friends to optimistically predict that it would actually teach ordinary Americans about all the “big government” ideas that were being defunded that they can do without (which the opposite actually happened over the 16 day stretch). Our update on Blackburn continued covering her hyper-conservative voting record, as well as the fact that she spoke at the South Carolina Freedom Summit and claimed Christians were a persecuted minority in the United States. When reporters followed up on her remarks and asked her to name an example of such persecution, she failed to be able to cite a single one. Marsha Blackburn was also particularly awful during the GOP's witch hunt after the Center for Medical Progress released their deceitful smear of Planned Parenthood, insisting that after all investigations had been concluded that Planned Parenthood had still been caught "selling baby body parts", and during the paranoia around the affair, attempted to use the House Intelligence Committee's investigation as a means to demand a complete list of every medical students, residents, or other medical personnel around the country who have ever participated in an abortion, because there's no way that such a thing would enable domestic terrorists in the radical anti-choice movement to assassinate those people (when they already have done so).

Through 2017, continued to make the rounds on cable news and with the media, where she can do things like insinuate that James Comey is a liar to help provide cover for Donald Trump while he’s investigated for accepting help from the Russians to get elected in exchange for dropping sanctions against them, or when she can be one of the few politicians who actually defended Donald Trump’s spur of the moment decision to ban transgender soldiers from the military before he ever consulted the Pentagon about what kind of impact that might have. Make no mistake, she’s “all-in” on the Trump administration, and with any luck, she might get swept away with it at some point. Maybe when she was caught in the middle of the NRA/Russia connection, someone should have thrown a flag.

How full of s*** is Marsha Blackburn? In May 2018, she was one of 18 Republicans who sign on to a letter asking to nominate Donald Trump for a Nobel Prize for meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

That's right. Donald Trump. For a Nobel Prize... for allowing a madman who murders his own people to be legitimized, and look the other way while he tries to illegally acquire nuclear weapons capability.

After she started catching some serious hell at her town halls in 2017, where she was been raucously booed and openly been accused of lying, she responded to that treatment by going on CNN a week later to claim that the people who booed her weren’t actually from her district. The usually passive Wolf Blitzer fact-checked her on that, pointing out that people had to show ID to prove they were from her district to get into the building in the first place.

Marsha Blackburn takes advantage of how red of a state Tennessee is, winning election to ther U.S. Senate to replace the retiring Sen. Bob Corker in 2018 with 55% of the vote. While of late, the majority of our CSGOPOTD updates on U.S. Senators note that they’re keeping their mouths shut, and are trying to just discreetly rubber-stamp whatever nominees the Trump administration puts in front of them, regardless of how terrible of people they are, or how wildly unqualified they are for the job (which make no mistake, Marsha Blackburn has begun doing that as a Senator)…

We’re also going to note that Marsha Blackburn unilaterally blacked a bill in the Senate that would have required any presidential campaign that receives offers of assistance from an agent of a foreign government to report it to FBI, opening the door for Russia to assist the 2020 Trump campaign the way they did in 2016. (And at least a dozen GOP Congressional candidates also accepted help from Russian hackers, per the Mueller report). This should come as little surprise, though, because Blackburn knows exactly how deep Trump is in it with Russia… after all, she was on the Trump transition team. She deemed the bill, submitted by Mark Warner, as “over-broad” and that “it should be done in a bipartisan way” even though outside of Blackburn, it had unanimous support. And that Warner offered to allow her to suggest how to amend it to make it not “over-broad” or “more bipartisan”, however the hell she assumes to interpret those words.

And the country will be stuck with her in the Senate until 2024. Just… great. Great.

Suddenly, you can't help but wonder if John Bolton was ousted because he DIDN'T want to start a war with Iran, and Trump NEEDS that to stay in office, what with that almost inevitable trial over his misdeeds from the Mueller Report hanging over his head.

John Bolton’s departure as national security adviser stemmed from a disagreement Monday over a suggestion from President Trump that the United States might lift some sanctions on Iran as a negotiation tool, a person close to Bolton said Saturday.
Bolton submitted a letter of resignation Tuesday morning, although Trump tweeted that he had fired his top in-house national security aide. Trump cited multiple policy differences with Bolton, and later claimed Bolton had “set us back” in negotiations with North Korea. Trump did not mention disagreement over Iran sanctions, and the direct link between the president’s alleged interest in easing sanctions and his break with Bolton has not been previously reported.
[Iran says U.S. must ‘abandon warmongers’ following Bolton’s dismissal]
Bolton was a main architect of the administration’s “maximum pressure” campaign of escalating economic sanctions and threats of retaliation for Iran’s alleged support for terrorism. The idea has been to cripple Iran’s economy to the point that its leaders feel they must bargain away any nuclear ambitions and missile technology.

U.S. Targets North Korean Hacking as National-Security Threat

New U.S. sanctions against North Korean hackers and revelations about North Korean malware show how Pyongyang’s cyber operations have become a crucial revenue stream and a security threat that soon could rival its weapons program, U.S. and industry officials say.

North Korea’s hacks of financial systems and critical infrastructure world-wide reveal sophisticated cyber capabilities developed to counter global sanctions and expand Pyongyang’s geopolitical power, according to these officials.

The U.S. Treasury Department, in blacklisting the three hacking groups allegedly run by North Korea’s primary intelligence service, said Friday they collectively were responsible for operations across 10 countries, stealing hundreds of millions of dollars from banks and cryptocurrency exchanges, pilfering military secrets, destabilizing infrastructure and intimidating adversaries.
Treasury says one collective, called Lazarus Group, and two subsidiaries, known as Bluenoroff and Andariel, have stolen around $700 million in the last three years and have attempted to steal nearly $2 billion.

U.S. security officials and cyber experts say those sums of money likely underrepresent the amount of cash Pyongyang’s hackers have secured. United Nations investigators last month tallied proceeds from all reported operations, including those carried out by other North Korean hacking groups, at $2 billion in recent years. Some thefts likely aren’t reported to authorities for fear of embarrassment and exposure, a senior U.S. official said.

North Korean officials didn’t respond to a request for comment but historically have denied accusations of engaging in malicious cyber activity.

Treasury said it also has been working with the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, as well as with the U.S. military’s Cyber Command in recent months to disclose malware samples to private industry. Last week, under its North Korean malicious cyberactivity rubric “Hidden Cobra,” the administration issued a public alert about a new version of malware dubbed “ELECTRICFISH” that burrows into victims’ computers to steal data.

Senior administration and industry officials say that many reported, but not publicly disclosed, attacks on banks and other companies bear hallmarks of North Korean involvement.
This leaves me to wonder how Caramel Caligula will respond to the report, given his bromance with Kim Jong Un. Don't be surprised if Trump gets a "lovely letter" from Rocketman saying the allegations are fake news. And, of course, Donald the Dotard will believe every lying word.

Hillary Clinton’s Zombie Impeachment Memo That Could Help Fell Trump (catchy headline)

A document Hillary Clinton helped write nearly a half century ago has returned from the dead to threaten the man she couldn’t vanquish in 2016.

The bizarre, only-in-D.C. twist centers on a congressional report penned by a bipartisan team of young attorneys that included Hillary before she was a Clinton and written in the throes of Watergate. Then, unlike now, not a single lawmaker had been alive the last time Congress impeached a president. They had little understanding of how to try and remove Richard Nixon from the White House. So they tapped Clinton and a team of ambitious staffers to dive into the history of impeachment, stretching back to the 14th century in England: How has impeachment been used? What were the justifications? Can we apply it to Nixon?
In an ironic twist, the document was resurrected in the late 1990s. Republicans gleefully used it to bolster their unsuccessful bid to oust Clinton’s now-husband, President Bill Clinton. Then it faded from public conscience — again.

Until now, that is. The 45-year-old report has become a handbook House Democratic lawmakers and aides say they are using to help determine whether they have the goods to mount a full-scale impeachment effort against President Donald Trump, the same man who three years ago upended Hillary Clinton’s bid for a return trip to the White House.
Essentially, Clinton, albeit indirectly, might get one last shot at accomplishing what she couldn’t in 2016 — defeating Donald Trump.

An interesting piece, however, in the long run, this tactic won't amount to much, if anything. Any sort of impeachment inquiry and/or proceedings would still have to get past Moscow Mitch and the Republican controlled Senate, and they've made it clear as crystal that Trump is their man and they'll go to any lengths, pull every dirty trick in the book, even flush the Constitution down the toilet to protect him, including from himself. At this point, I don't care anymore, we're only 14 months away from the election, I'm perfectly fine with Trump being voted out of office because, as things stand right now, that's the only sure fire way of getting rid of him.

A Conservative Senator’s Crusade Against Big Tech

President Trump’s social media summit in July featured pretty much what you’d expect: improbable anecdotes, boasts about the economy, a discourse on the failed Arnold Schwarzenegger “Apprentice” reboot. The attendees, who included such right-wing Internet luminaries as Diamond and Silk and former White House aide Sebastian Gorka, were even treated to a vintage diatribe against the mainstream press: “The media says — the establishment media, the fake media — they say, ‘Aww, there’s no censorship in social media! That’s all made up, that’s all fake.’ You and I know that’s not true.”
It was classic Trump. Only it wasn’t Trump. That last bit was delivered by Josh Hawley, a 39-year-old Republican freshman senator from Missouri who has quickly become the face of the conservative side of the backlash against Silicon Valley. Half a year into his first term, he has introduced a raft of legislation aimed at cracking down on some of the business practices of giants like Facebook and Google. And, somewhat improbably for a Republican senator who often speaks in the language of Trumpian grievance, much of this legislation has been bipartisan. In March, he teamed up with Sen. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) on a bill to strengthen online privacy protections for children; then in May, he partnered with Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Mark R. Warner (D-Va.) on the Do Not Track Act, which would let users opt out of having their data mined.

All of this has earned Hawley accolades from across the aisle, even though the bills stand little chance of becoming law anytime soon, and some of them strike experts as clunky and overbroad. (A measure he introduced in late July — the Social Media Addiction Reduction Technology Act — reads like a parody of hyper-regulation: “[T]he operator shall present the user with an option to decline by clicking an icon that is identical to the other icon in terms of size, shape, font, and other visual or auditory design.”) Feinstein told me that she and Hawley are “both advocates for individual control of personal data.” Warner said, “It’s great to work with a Republican partner who is thinking deeply about these issues.” And Markey called Hawley “a tenacious privacy advocate.”

Totally agreed. If Trump was on video kicking a puppy, McConnell and co. would have the puppy put down for getting in the way of Trump’s shoe. Impeachment is pointless. All it would do is give Trump and Fox News campaign fodder and of course they’d spin McConnell’s underhanded ruling to “prove” Trump has been “completely exonerated”.

Being voted out of office is the only way he’s leaving. And maybe not even then.

If anyone would actually try and pull a Darth Sidious to stay in office past his term limit, it would be Trump. I also FULLY expect that, should he lose as early as 2020, that he will not concede the result. It'll be some drawn out controversy with multiple recount demands and the like, not unlike 2000. It will be utter chaos getting him to walk away even if he's voted out.

Totally agree. The lack of support to go against Trump in the GOP dooms any effort to impeach Trump in the Senate. It may even end up backfiring against the Democrats next year. The best they can hope for is to put together a thorough report documenting all of Trump's impeachable offenses (and I swear that list grows daily) and present it in some kind of public forum. They will only get a moral victory out of it just to show how spineless and cult-like the GOP has become. The Trump zombies won't pay attention but you may get more of the more moderates to think things over.

I've had Trump fatigue for several weeks now and watching the "highlight reel" from his appearance in Boston is depressing. And people lap it up. I just can't see how anyone with half a functioning brain believes that this moron is worthy of the highest office in the land. He embarrasses and tarnishes the reputation this country and the scary thing is.....millions of people just don't give a **** and literally think he is some kind of gift from their god. Certainly not mine.

Manhattan district attorney subpoenas 8 years of Trump tax returns

One of these days, someone is going to get a hold of those tax returns and make them public. I'm dying to find out what Trump is so desperate to hide.

(CNN)New York County District Attorney Cyrus Vance's office has subpoenaed eight years of President Donald Trump's tax returns from Mazars USA, the longtime accounting firm to Trump and the Trump Organization, as part of its investigation into hush money payments, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The subpoena was first reported by The New York Times.

It isn't clear what deadline Mazars USA has to comply with the grand jury subpoena. A Mazars representative could not immediately be reached for comment.

Any material obtained by a grand jury subpoena is covered by grand jury secrecy rules and would likely become public only if it were used as evidence at a trial.

Marc Mukasey, a lawyer for the Trump Organization, said, "We are evaluating and will respond as appropriate."
    -----

The Manhattan DA who subpoenaed Trump's taxes is Cy Vance. Vance is known for protecting elite criminals. Among those he aided are Weinstein, Epstein, Strauss-Kahn, and Donald Jr and Ivanka Trump. Temper your expectations.

Exactly. If Trump loses in a close vote, he’ll demand endless recounts. If he gets blown out, he’ll scream bloody murder about the election having been fixed. Either way, pulling teeth with tweezers will be easier than getting Trump out should he lose.

Let's hope he loses bigly then. He can demand recounts, but it would be up to each State to do it or not.
I think he will just say it's all fixed and refuse to go. The Dems MUST take the Senate to end him.
