It was on this date in 2015 that “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day” had a profile of Bobby Franklin, a former member of the Georgia House of Representatives who in 2008, he wrote an opinion editorial in the Georgia Journal where he said President George H.W. Bush was “worshipping pagan Gods”, and that we didn’t has much to fear from Obama bin Laden as we did “God’s coming wrath”. Over the course of a month in late 2010 and early 2011, Franklin was pushing for a law to require taxpayers in Georgia to pay their state taxes in gold or silver coins, only and then campaigned for Georgians’ rights to erect 40-foot-tall walls around their houses, and f attempting to resolve Georgia’s metaphysical issues, by proposed the “Freedom of Choice and Security Act” which sought to legally define the nature of evil within Georgia. He would still go on to argue against the issuing of Driver’s Licenses in Georgia, trying to use the Magna Carta as his justification, and used the Book of Corinthians as his argument to try to prevent the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” from being enacted. On women’s rights, Franklin sought to change the legal definition of the “victim” in a rape or sexual assault to the “accuser”, and to charge the accuser with the cost of the trial if the defendant was found not guilty (because that would TOTALLY encourage victims to come forward). Franklin also submitted a bill that would criminalize miscarriages if it could not be proven that the mother did nothing to be part of the cause, and the punishment for not carrying a child to term successfully would be… THE DEATH PENALTY. Which is pretty terrible when you consider one in four pregnancies result in a miscarriage, and now, 25% of pregnant women, already devastated that the baby they were hoping for was not to be, would also be the subject of a police investigation with their own life in the balance. For whatever reason in March 2011, he criticized the United States for establishing a “No Fly Zone” in Libya to aid its rebels in overthrowing Qaddafi in a bizarre way because he apparently sympathized with the dictator’s regime, and compared it to our own country’s tolerance of abortion. Bobby Franklin died of a heart attack suddenly in July of 2011.

In 2016, 2017, as well as 2018, “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day” presented profiles of Richard “Dickie” Bell, a Republican representing District 20 of the Virginia State Assembly since 2009, when he was appointed to his seat by disgraced former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell. Dickie Bell, who not coincidentally is a church deacon, got everyone’s attention when he forgot about that whole separation of church and state and sponsored a creationist bill, HB 207. That might be putting it mildly, as Bell’s legislation looked a lot like it was cut-and-paste written based on the “Academic Freedom Act”, which would allow students to question scientific discussion based on their faith. Upon a lot of voices getting raised in caution at what Bell was pitching, he actually tried arguing that his bill was just “misunderstood”, which was hard to believe, when he started citing how the debate would center around discussions on evolution and climate change. The creationist effort failed, but maybe folks in Virginia should have been paying attention prior to that moment in 2014 (and since), because there’s a lot of “WTF?” in Dickie Bell’s legislative record, that contains some extreme policy stances on top of some support for downright insane bills, including the time he submitted HB 154, which would have placed everyone in Virginia on an organ donor list, unless they placed themselves on an “opt out” registry. And he was surprised… SURPRISED that people got online to complain about Dickie Bell trying to turn the state into a bad version of “Repo: The Genetic Opera”.

A smattering of examples from the rest of his voting record includes votes for a ban on human microchip implantation, to prevent something that’s only happening in dystopian science fiction novels, that he voted for HB 505, which authorizes citizens to carry concealed firearms in establishments that serve alcohol (because booze does such wonders for impulse control, and gun added to the mix is a winning combination), voted to bring back the electric chair as a method of execution in Virginia, voted for HB 189, which would allow adoption agencies to refuse to allow people to adopt for “religious reasons”. Y’know, like if the adoptive parents are gay and voted for Virginia’s HB 1, which if passed, would have defined life at conception, and thus made not just abortion, but using most methods of contraception murder. After the mass shooting at the Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina, their state legislature voted to remove the Confederate flag from being displayed at the state grounds. Going the opposite direction, Dickie Bell decided to co-sponsor and vote for HB 587, to make it HARDER to remove Confederate iconography from around Virginia. Nice priorities, Dickie.

Dickie Bell did not have to face a Democrat in an election in 2011, 2013, or 2015 and the GOP hasn’t had anyone oppose him in a primary since he was appointed to office back in 2009. And while Democrats did manage to pull off a wave election and take control of the Virginia State Assembly in 2017, they could not wrest Dickie Bell from his spot in office, and the 80 year old legislator held on with 54% of the vote. However, we are thrilled to report that Dickie Bell announced in December of 2018 that he would be retiring at the end of this term, and we can’t be more excited to with him the warmest of “GOOD RIDDANCE” greetings.

Trump has created his own version of Tartarus. He's trapped himself, just like Sisyphus was trapped with the boulder. Trump hates it in the White House and he fears leaving. What that creates is a person with nothing to lose, if he is miserable he is going to make everyone else miserable as well.

This is exactly why I think he’ll win in 2020. He has to or he’ll spend the rest of his life in prison. Trump and the GOP are going to break every law in the land in order to keep him in office. They’ve been able to get away with countless lies and crimes thus far. May as well add voter fraud and suppression to this list. It’s terrifying to think that this may be our last election.

Obviously at first he didn’t like being President. Too much work. But I think he’s grown to love the job for the power it grants him. He knows that he can say absolutely anything at his rallies and get endless ego boosts. Losing is not an option.

It feels like everything is coming to a head to ensure a Trump 2020 win.

    Bummer.

He won't have to cheat if the democrats out strategize themselves by running a "safe" candidate...

The Democrats just have to hope that Bernie Sanders either gets knocked out early or ends up winning the nomination, because if he finishes anywhere near a close second again his supporters definitely will not be content to just bite their tongues and vote for whoever the nominee is in the general.

Sadly, that's pretty much the case no matter what. They'd rather have Trump again if their guy doesn't get the nom.

He doesn't love the job. He only loves the attention, and the effective "get out of jail free" card he's living on at the moment. But when you see him having to do any of the things that actually are required by a commander-in-chief, he looks and acts f***ing miserable.

I'm pretty sure he looks and acts like that even when he's doing his favorite things in the world. That's just his general disposition.

He's too lazy to do the real job of President. He never reads any of the reports and they've probably stopped making very detailed ones for him anyway. It seems all he does is:

    • Go back and forth to either Mar-a-Lago or Bedminster.
    • Golf
    • Tweets
    • Watches or phones in to Fox News
    • or if really desperate, the staff puts together a rally for him to go to

I think it's been written or observed that he has "presidential time" until about 11 am. He probably spends some of that time putting on his spray on tan and arranging that rat's nest of hair. BTW, I watched one of his recent Oval office appearances and on HD, his complexion looks awful. Sometimes you can see brownish, scaly spots

whatever. I was a Bernie supporter last time around (my preference would be Elizabeth Warren this time). I got up bright and early to vote for Hillary. haven't met any Bernie supporters who thought that Trump was the lesser of two evils. I do know people who were just not energized enough to vote. but, instead of anecdotal "evidence," i'll just go with the Washington Post take on it (surprisingly similar to the South Park take)...

The poll found that Obama-Trump voters, many of whom are working-class whites and were pivotal to Trump’s victory, are economically losing ground and are skeptical of Democratic solutions to their problems. Among the findings:

50 percent of Obama-Trump voters said their incomes are falling behind the cost of living, and another 31 percent said their incomes are merely keeping pace with the cost of living.
A sizable chunk of Obama-Trump voters — 30 percent — said their vote for Trump was more a vote against Clinton than a vote for Trump. Remember, these voters backed Obama four years earlier.
42 percent of Obama-Trump voters said congressional Democrats’ economic policies will favor the wealthy, vs. only 21 percent of them who said the same about Trump. (Forty percent say that about congressional Republicans.) A total of 77 percent of Obama-Trump voters said Trump’s policies will favor some mix of all other classes (middle class, poor, all equally), while a total of 58 percent said that about congressional Democrats.

doesn't seem to favor your take on it. seems like a bunch of working class whites thought that Hillary was looking out for the rich as opposed to the working class. but that's because Hillary is an establishment candidate. and trump is a snakeoil salesman.
