I hope it's Dick Grayson, but it probably won't be. My money's on Shazam, the only one of these characters with a solo movie under his belt.

Still, until this last month, I definitely would have said Flash is a bigger name than Shazam, so he may well pick back up in the pop culture awareness to pass the Big Red Cheese again by next year.

If we don't have a proper Wally and a proper Jay in 2020, I'd prefer that they ignore the Flash anniversary, honestly.

Yeah, I tend to agree with this.
It would tend to highlight just how far the Flash mythos has gone backwards in the last decade without the Flash Family.
No Jay. No Wally. Barry is barely recognisable as the character who existed pre Crisis. No Linda. No Max. No legacy.

I'm trying to remember if/what they did to celebrate The Big Red Cheese's 75th anniversary . . .

I think Doomsday Clock will probably be done before 2020 (but who knows at this point) so I assume we'll at least have a proper Jay back.

Wally is really up in the air, unfortunately .

I hope so. Don't we only have 3 more issues left?

isn't green lantern going to reach 80 years also?

or was flash ahead of him?

Jay Garrick = Flash Comics #1 (January 1940)

    Alan Scott = All-American Comics #16 (July 1940)

January 2020 would be a good moment to bring back Jay.

Nah . . . it should be sooner than that.

(But I honestly don't know if it will be before then.)

Let's keep in mind these are cover dates and not on sale dates. So any 80th anniversary is two months closer than they appear in the mirror. or something like that. it's late.

Which makes Flash's anniversary this year, not next.

The dates I supplied were in relation to a question of whether or not Flash came before Green Lantern.

As for the actual anniversaries, probably best to go with the cover-dates from back then and when books in 2019/2020 have a "January 2020" and "July 2020" cover-date.

Dang. I totally thought Green Lantern debuted in 1941, not 1940, otherwise I would have definitely included him.

    Ok, run it back:

    - The Flash (franchise b/c Jay Garrick)

    - Hawkman & Hawkgirl

    - Shazam!

    - Green Lantern (franchise b/c Alan Scott)

    - Robin (non-franchise b/c Dick Grayson)

Rank them in order of likely 80th anniversary acknowledgments.

    Mine (in 2020):

    5. Hawkman & Hawkgirl
    4. Robin
    3. Shazam!
    2. The Flash
    1. Green Lantern
