Default The similarities between 1963's Doom Patrol and 1963's X-Men

    Well,

Since the Doom Patrol show revealed to be a huge critical and commercial hit, and I always loved the DP comic book to the nth degree...

What do you know about the similarities shared by the two 1963's teams? Did Stan Lee and Kirby obtain some "spoilers" in advance about Drake's work and ideas, months and months and months before, and thus they conceived the X-Men as "quick answer"?

I'm just left wondering. Don't get me wrong, I love both the teams.

Seems like I've gathered that the Doom Patrol creator's final thoughts on it where that it was very possible that both publishing houses came be working in the same field by chance, like we have seen with other stuff (e.g. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Babylon 5).
Doctor Strange: "You are the right person to replace Logan."
X-23: "I know there are people who disapprove... Guys on the Internet mainly."

Woah slow down there,That is vastly overselling it.

As for the question It doesn't matter the victory writes the history.

The Doom Patrol to me are more inspired by early Fantastic Four, where in those very early books, Stan and Jack played up the freakishness of every member and then toned it down as they became celebrities. DP just keeps going. Goes all in. The O5 might as well be normal meatsacks compared to those weirdos. And Robot Dude was clearly Thing-inspired.

The Brain (and Mallah) are better than every X-Men villain except Mags, btw.

Not for Parrot Analytics, Rotten Tomatoes, IMD and Metacritic.
As well as numbers on YouTube, especially the first definitive trailer.

Quite frankly, apart from both being orange, I don't see any striking similarity.

Negative Man is vastly different from Human Torch.
Elasti-Girl has similarities with Giant-Man, but Pym became Giant-Man in November 1963, many months after the Doom Patrol's debut.

Frankly, I always thought the similarities between the 2 properties ended with both having a leader on a wheelchair. The outcasts theme wasn't really prevalent in the X-Men until much later.

Very happy with the success of Doom Patrol's TV show by the way! And I find it disappointing that DC hasn't even attempted to revive their book to tie in with the series.

Doom Patrol is definitely a lot closer to FF than X-Men are to DP. Robotman and Thing both have that "I'm a monster" vibe in their early issues. From what I've seen, the Negative Man and Elasti-Girl stuff is mostly visual similarity to FF, like Starfire, Cyborg and Raven mimic Storm, Colossus and Phoenix in appearance.
