Suprised no vote for Mordru. He seems like a charismatic villain.

This thread kinda make me want to read about Bloodwynd

Same here. Zatanna and Dr. Fate are both favorites -- can't pick one over the other. Spectre is great, but he's so far beyond magic that I don't even think of him that way. Also a fan of Enchantress and White Witch.

I do, too, and he was my favorite during the '70s (Doctor Fate was second). With that said, Zatanna took over as my favorite by the time she became a regular with the JLA. Her overall hotness didn't hurt, either.
    A bat! That's it! It's an omen.. I'll shall become a bat!

Zatanna is probably my favorite, followed by Extraño.

I really liked the Hector Hall version of Doctor Fate in the JSA. I’d love to see more of Doctor Mist. The Shadowpact was a fun idea. I’d love to see a coven of good magic-users and evil magic-user establish themselves - get away from the JL Dark concept.

For villains I like Circe and Queen of Fables. Klarion is a lot of fun. Jinx, Felix Faust and Enchantress could use some more loving, IMHO.

The biggest thing I’d like to see is some development and exploration of the different types of magic in the DCU. Are there differences between the types of magic used by deities or Homo Magi or Fae Folk? Are elemental and eldritch magics the same or different? Personally, I’d love to see some differences between different types and limitations… and also what it takes to learn magic - if that’s even possible.

Yes! Some magic-users seem clearly 'homo magi' and have some sort of genetic magical heritage (although it may be passed on more like a mystic bloodline curse than an actual genetic sequence of ACGT), while others seem gadget-dependent (both Fate and Sargon get at least some of their mystical power from the Helm of Nabu or Ruby of Life, and rarely are shown to be capable spellcasters *without* their power-bling) and yet others seem to derive mystical power from supernatural entities, such as Etrigan empowering Jason Blood, or the blood of Trigon empowering Raven, who, like many other 'magical' heroes or villains, doesn't generally act as a generic 'spellcaster' like Zatanna.

And we haven't even seen a lot of others, like a character who derives their power from Persian or Celtic or Japanese lore perhaps with ties to genies or fae or kitsune, using 'fae glamer' or 'fox fire' or 'smokeless fire' to craft illusions or temporary solid items. There are a ton of different cultural takes on magic, some of them, like the three very different cultures with curiously similar magical tropes (three different supernatural critters from three very distinct cultures that 'weave stuff' out of a mystical substance), and there's a ton of stuff to explore. Are there magic-users who have zero innate 'homo magi' potential, but entirely get their magic from things? Magic-users who are wholly vessels for otherworldly (demonic or angelic or just plain other) entities, and have 'magic' only at their patrons blessing?

    Time to revisit this.

    1. Zatanna (in my top 5 all time favourites)
    2. Constantine (in my top 10)
    3. El Diablo (Not sure if he counts specifically as a spell caster, but he can summon a demon to his aid so...
    4. Dr Mist (I love the Global Guardians , he just doesn't get enough panel time)
    5. White Witch (In my top 10 legionairres)

A shout out to Dr. Occult for golden age heroes.

Dr Fate and the Spectre are either to orderly or authoritarian for me, and as much as I love Jason Blood, Etrigen just doesn't look menacing enough for a demon.
