The template for these hyper-macho quar-quintet of adventure characters however goes further back...

Kirby was heavily influenced by Doc Savage's Fab Five, which were synthesized in the Challengers.
Which were then re-purposed into the Fantastic Four.
The Wolf PACK drew from the similar template.
As did A-Team also somewhat a borrowed throwback to the Doc Savage templates.
And LOL sorry for the thread derail.

Finding a Non-Marvel Herb Trimpe cover was a little harder that I thought it would be, found about 10 out of 1500ish. Herb made his MARVEL !

Hillary was right!
When it comes to Christopher Priest/James Owsley, I think more of his Marvel work.

Lots of great covers this week, thanks to all for participating. It was hard to choose, but in the end the combo of Space Ghost and Sienkewicz won out so my vote goes to Nschornhorst this week.

Lots of great choices, including a cover I almost went with (John Byrne's Man of Steel), but I'm voting for Shalla Bal and that incredible John Severin cover!

Nschornhorst, because I love me some Bill S.
