Hyperion isn't dead, if we're talking about the dude who had a solo series awhile ago. the Squadron disbanded and he became a truck driver. the only one from the team to be officially killed off was Nighthawk.
my one wish would be these being actual 616 versions of the original Squadron. we've really only see alternate reality versions of the characters so far (except Nighthawk and Speed Demon, I guess).

Define "real deal". There have been multiple variants of the Squadron over the course of decades. One of the reasons that there have been so many is that all of them are relatively obscure. The line between Gruenwald's and Thomas' teams is so blurry that even Marvel editorial was unsure where it was until Gruenwald did some back-writing (that required ignoring some of Thomas' vaguely written filler). This guys are the real deal so mind wiped is the most likely scenario.
I totally missed that. Good catch. But, I am sorry that you have the Byrne issue so much in your mind. (But, yes, you are probably right.)it seems that the story was throwing shade at the infamous Superman/big Barda shooting for a blue film moment.
Marvel ignored the truck driver thing as soon as the Robinson "Squadron Supreme" series ended. Hyperion showed up in multiple crowd scenes during "Secret Empire", fighting along side Danvers' team of Avengers in space. Plenty of chances for Hyperion to be incapacitated and brainwashed.i'm not sure that we know, yet. if it was, I wonder how they got to him/apprehended and mind-wiped him.
Back in the 80s, when DC did their first major reboot, they let John Byrne write the modernized Superman comic ("the Man of Steel"). For all of Byrne's technical skill with comics, he is not a high-concept idea man.not sure what you're referring to. but Hyperion and Zarda have been a couple before.
For reasons that I never quite understood, Byrne thought that it would be hilarious for Superman and Barda (an obscure Kirby character) to be brainwashed in to making a pornographic film. And, perhaps more inexplicably, DC editorial signed off on it being published.
Both 616 Speed Demon and Nighthawk are supposed to be bastardized duplicates of the "original" (from alternate timelines) characters. This is a back-write by Gruenwald. But, it is the official line on page.my one wish would be these being actual 616 versions of the original Squadron. we've really only see alternate reality versions of the characters so far (except Nighthawk and Speed Demon, I guess).

Those poor frost giants didn't pose a threat, did they? LOL If that's the best they are I can't see why the Asgardians didn't wipe them out a long time ago.
I'm glad see the SSoA being mentally controlled. It was fun to see their personalities being played with by evil Coulson. I hope its Hickman's Hyperion and Doom's Warrior Woman, but it might be the original Zarda repowered by Mephisto. Could the Blur and Nighthawk actually be Speed Demon and Pennyworth recondition to believe they are 616 versions of the 712 heroes? Remember, the 712 SS were trapped on 616 Earth for a few years working for Project Pegasus. That maybe how the government knows about their identities and personalities that are being exaggerated now. This Joseph Ledger could be New Earth's version with the original Power Prism that's been passed around a few times.
Hopefully when they are freed from their conditioning, someone would take on the job of creating their own title. I would totally read about the Squadron Supreme of America. Maybe Kate Bishop or Clint could be their "Green Arrow" member and a new female Red Raven from Sky-Island can be the "Hawk Woman" stand-in.
They lived at Project Pegasus and was studied there while living on Earth-616 even cloned at one point but they turned into zombie versions. As far as characters that could be turned into 712 versions

Whizzer - Thunderbolt http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix2/tbolthulk.htm
Nighthawk - Earth-616 version of Earth-712 Neil Richmond/Nighthawk or the previously mentioned Pennyworth http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix2/n...chmondneal.htm

it remains to be seen how this will play out. I hope.. that these characters are at least baseline moral. going with lethal intent on asgardian trolls might be one thing. are they going to cripple jaywalkers is the obvious dealbreaker, to me.
Marvel writers have that bullshit rule of not using each other's creations. Like Mantis was Englehart's pet for a while, Rambeau was Stern's and such. It took a long time for them to be really used again.
I guess Hickman's Hyperion falls under that dynamic. Probably the same with the new Starbrand, Smasher, Tamara, the Builders, and the Gardeners. Which is a shame: that Thor-Hyperion bromance was awesome and Hyp showed a lot of potential.
Can I just double check. We never actually got a confirmation on who Coulson shot did we? I think some believed it was Thunderbolt Ross and tied into Cap, but it is pretty clear from the dialogue that it’s not him. I ask because I was rereading it to see if there is anything definitive and it feels to me Coulson was perhaps aware that somebody else might be listening in, and so he maintains his ‘character’ while potentially also being somebody else.
I was looking for clues he shot another Coulson, but on reflection that wouldn’t make a lot of sense. So who was it if it wasn’t Thunderbolt Ross?
I have not been reading Captain America, has the Thunderbolt Ross killing been fully explained or does it cast any light on this?

There is no such rule. I think it just happens that writers create their own characters and subsequent writers don't always have the same affection for them or simply want to create their own characters. It's a bummer when good characters go into limbo but it's not because of any rule.
I believe it was revealed to be done by spoilers:end of spoilers.

It’s not a rule, because effectively Marvel has the right to create new stories with any characters, however there is a gentleman’s agreement in play. In quite a few interviews I have heard writers that have either approached other writers or have been approached by them, checking that they are not stepping on anyone’s toes by using their creations. One recent example was using Viv after The Vision maxi. After a few years I don’t believe it’s so much of an issue, because clearly when a writer is no longer around they are less likely to have relevant plans for their creations.
Cool. So it’s still a mystery then. Someone that worked with Wakanda and potentially knew Coulson well enough to know he was different perhaps, or maybe someone who knows about the mind control technology. Everett Ross maybe?

The way Coulson’s face is warped into a rictus grin could suggest Norman Osbourne is masquerading as Coulson, or is somehow wearing his body. The closet we have to a major figure Joker analogy in the MU.
