One for Jean Grey/Phoenix tonight: Let the Flames Begin by Paramore.

A memory remains, just a tiny spark
I give it all my oxygen, to let the flames begin
    To let the flames begin
Somewhere weakness is our strength, and I'll die searching for it
I can't let myself regret, such selfishness
This is how we'll dance when
When they try to take us down
This is how we'll sing oh
This is how we'll stand when
When they burn our houses down
This is what we'll be, oh glory

And another one. Much, much sooner than expected, but it's hitting me hard tonight as I just found this one.

    "Monster" by Paramore.

This whole song is making me think heavily of Lorna during and after Genosha.

You were my conscience, so solid
    Now you're like water
    And we started drowning
Not like we'd sink any further
But I let my heart go,
It's somewhere down at the bottom
But I'll get a new one
And come back for the hope that you've stolen
Lorna's writing until Genosha was heavily "she exists to be a Havok mouthpiece and parrot his views." When he "died," she hit rock bottom of poor treatment in that vein. But then Genosha came along, and she was able to find her own soul and character again that restored all the hope and potential she has to offer after decades of it getting buried under him.

I'll stop the whole world, I'll stop the whole world
From turning into a monster and eating us alive
Don't you ever wonder how we survive?
Well now that you're gone, the world is ours
Post-Genosha, Lorna simultaneously wondering how she managed to survive the genocide, and vowing to do everything she can to keep the world from devolving into the same monster that decimated that mutant homeland and its millions.

I'm only human, I've got a skeleton in me
    But I'm not the villain
    Despite what you're always preaching
Call me a traitor, I'm just collecting your victims
    And they're getting stronger
    I hear them calling
The "I've got a skeleton in me" bit makes me think of skeletons in the closet - which she has many, some of which haven't been addressed yet.

The Lorna that emerged from Genosha is one that humans (and probably Havok) would consider villainous, for being on that fraught edge between Xavier and Magneto philosophies. So this feels like a rebuke of their arguments, saying the Xavierite side with no sharpness and resistance in it leads to a mounting body count that they're to some extent responsible for. The "call me a traitor" part being how she used to follow those ideas and turned her back on them.

The them calling and getting stronger, in my head, isn't just the future "victims" of the philosophy though. I'm imagining it as a callback to New X-Men #132, when Lorna was dug out of Genosha's ruins and she had the last moments of everyone who died replaying all around her.

This serving as the foundation of her vow to protect mutants and do what she can to keep the world from creating more victims like those millions.

Edit: The music video is pretty appropriate for this too, as I watch it. Decaying flowers that say "This is not the end!" inside a ruined hospital that's breaking down as they try to escape.

Heroes - Alesso (featuring Tove Lo)

    https://youtu.be/a7SouU3ECpU

Lyrics: We go hideaway in daylight
We go undercover wait out the sun
Got a secret side in plain sight
    Where the streets are empty
    That's where we run
    Everyday people do
    Everyday things but I
    Can't be one of them
I know you hear me now
    We are a different kind
    We can do anything

A page ago, I mentioned "Born For This" by Paramore.

My thoughts have broadened - to imagining various X-Women singing different verses of the song. Not all of them though. Here's the ones I've started mentally attaching to various characters.

Hope Summers (cause of one word in it)

Oh no, I just keep on falling
    (Back to the same old)
And where's hope, when misery comes crawling
    Storm

    You'll trigger a landslide
And kill off this common sense of mine
    You'll trigger a landslide
To kill off their finite state of mind
    Emma Frost

    And it takes acquired minds
To taste, to taste, to taste this wine
You can't down it with your eyes
    Jean Grey

So we don't need the headlines
We don't need the headlines, we just want
    Polaris

We want the airwaves back, we want the airwaves back
    Dazzler

    Everybody sing
Like it's the last song you will ever sing
    X-23

    Everybody live
Like it's the last day you will ever see

Greetings nerds, and everyone who isn't me.

As said before, I listen to a lot of Halestorm. The song "Scream" suddenly had me thinking of Cyclops today.

    Seeds in my head
    Visions in red
    All that I dreamed
    And all that I've bled
    My mind is a gun
    I won't be outdone
    Say what you want
While I shoot for the sun
    Step out of the haze
    Sleep walkers awake
    The pills that they give
    You don’t have to take
    Don’t want to see light
    They cover our eyes

    Yesterday’s dead
    Tomorrow’s alive

This is entirely based on how fun I’ve always thought a major X-men fight scene, well choreographed to display everyone being a bad ass to this song in the background would be. The beginning has that perfect build up and then SMASH he comes through with that iconic chorus that should already be an X power anthem.

There are certain lyrics in this that pop as able to be tied to specific characters, e.g. the "Freeze" line for Iceman, "With the non-stop, pop pop of stainless steel" for Wolverine, etc.

I also think it's my solemn duty to get this stuck into your head.

    Another Polaris song.

I, I keep a record of the wreckage in my life
I gotta recognize the weapon in my mind
I've tasted blood and it is sweet
I've had the rug pulled beneath my feet
I've trusted lies and trusted men
Broke down and put myself back together again

Stared in the mirror and punched it to shatters
Collected the pieces and picked out a dagger
I've pinched my skin in between my two fingers
And wished I could cut some parts off with some scissors
No, I won't smile, but I'll show you my teeth
And I'ma let you speak if you just let me breathe
I've been polite, but won't be caught dead
Lettin' a man tell me what I should do with my bed
Keep my exes in check in my basement
'Cause kindness is weakness, or worse, you're complacent
I could play nice or I could be a bully
I'm tired and angry, but somebody should be
