Detective Comics #1002 Preview/Discussion

This issue wasn't really anything groundbreaking, but I still found it exhilarating. Tomasi has been churning out more misses than hits for me over the past few years, including his first arc on 'Tec, but this was just a genuinely solid read. I thought that it was well paced, I really enjoy Walker's art, and most importantly, Tomasi captures a Batman and Robin dynamic that we haven't seen in... years. THIS is the kind of story we should've been getting in the New 52/Rebirth era.

There's just something right about Batman and Robin working together again. Classic in iconography, contemporary in dynamic.

Tomasi's Batman and Robin is easily my favourite Bat run. I've never been a fan of the whole letting regular kids fight crime so a run that explored the parental angle rather than a crime fighting duo was very welcome.

It was refreshing to see Dick the Robin cycle finally in BB.

Yeah Tomasi really gets Damian.

I think Priest has has done a good job with him in Deathstroke too. He’s made an appearance in like 4 different arcs and I’ve been happy with how he was handled every time.

Yeah Priest does a solid Damian.

Some writers have shown that they get and are able to write the character but have knowingly twisted him for different reasons

Percy [when not regressing him for development eg GA]
Tynion [when Tim isn't around eg Batman vs TMNT]
Synder [when not using him as an insert for his kids has proven that he gets Damian e.g DOTF]
King [when not pandering to tumblr eg Robin War]

I don't see it being Ric at all. Not to mention whoever it is has long hair (as seen in the last page when removing the mask). I have to say I am scratching my head wondering who it could be. I hope the reveal isn't a big letdown.

Another solid issue. The Knight is turning out to be a better villain than I expected. Good story so far.

Batman in the daytime feels kinda weird, but in a good way.

Have no idea who the AK might be.

Whoever he is, it's hard not to love him. He made a needlepoint tapestry of all the Robins that includes STEPHANIE BROWN. She's down in front and half hidden by the candle stick, but she made the wall decor! The Arkham Knight is the hero we deserve.
