He committed mass murder because he was sad. He then desecrated the bodies, framed other people, exposed the secrecy of the "Sanctuary" to the press to cause further mayhem, and went on the lam.

I honestly will probably always have trouble reconciling those actions, no matter what King or who else manages to pull out of their ass. I mean it will literally have to be something stupid like it was a DC skrull or some other comic book BS.
