Daredevil has his own craziness like other comic book characters.

Him not being an Avenger doesn't make him easier to follow.

Marvel actually has other simpler characters beyond Daredevil.

You're not wrong, but having to only about part of a continuity always helps.

I'd also argue Frank Miller's run is no where near as dark as people think it was.

True. And on the other end of the spectrum, Mark Waid's Daredevil takes a lighthearted approach but also had some rather dark elements as well.
