Default Night of the Fall: An Encounter in the White-Gold Room ! (Pt. I)

After bathing, Ishtar returned to the others long enough to watch them slip through the RoSaT Portal before disappearing the way she came.

As before, when this 'trial' had begun, the Oni had no mind for slipping in and out of alternate timelines, save one. And with Zurvan confirming that the remaining two of the three trips were to be relatively unremarkable, her decision to refrain from going on all but the most important -- in her mind -- trip was further cemented. Besides, her conversation with Sarada had at least given her a flicker of an idea of how to move forward from where she was at now ... a thing Ishtar needed to follow up on.

So off she walked, away from the RoSaT, and Zurvan, and everyone else ... and found herself headed to the White-Gold Room. The only place Ishtar knew of where one could practice without running the risk of bringing true -- and in her case permanent -- harm to herself, or others.

Though that was not the sole reason, she sought it out; and so her pace quickened.

The White-Gold Room had served as 'live' training after all, once before with Evangeline -- her three scenarios being: Daemonic Horde, Coven of Grey Thorns, and Young Battersea -- and again with Parsley, when they saw the truth of the fight between Glacier and Vocado; and the beginning of the Saiyan Empire's decline. Yet it wasn't the training with Evangeline that mattered, but this second instance. As it hinted at something more, that being a change in how the White-Gold Room's manifestations operated: a burgeoning ability for the echoes of times past, to acknowledge and interact with the present. All one needed to do to manage this, it seemed; was simply return to a specific point in time.

For Parsley, that had been the legendary battle between Vocado, and Glacier: the fabled Super Saiyan that slew the Tyrannical All-Powerful Arcosian. For Ishtar however, there were few events that resonated so deeply as that. Her history was a tapestry of repetition. Civilizations rising, and those same civilizations falling ad nauseum for countless millennia. No Oni of note. No myths or legends worth clinging to with the ardor of the Saiyans. Yet despite this dearth of memorable events there were a few that stood out amid this monotony; and of these few events there was one alone Ishtar hoped ... needed, to be the one to work.

So when her feet finally carried her to the White-Gold Room, she was thankful when she found that there was no one else around; and without wasting another moment the golden-eyed Oni slipped inside and closed the door. Though as before, when she finally felt she was alone, her shoulders slumped and she found herself unsteady. After all, she knew what waited for her should this idea of hers been seen through to its conclusion.

What is the point of this ... ?

She had already buried the ghosts she now considered disturbing, after all. Had been given a chance to say goodbye and make amends for what she done. Why return to that darkness ... that pain even in memories ? To hope at ... at a chance ? A chance at stopping her Alternate ... a chance at perhaps learning something from the past, that she missed when it was her present ?

Chances ... The Oni exhaled, and finisher her thought aloud. "... nothing but these Gods-damned chances."

Ishtar sighed once more, before shaking her head. Chances would not help her here, the immediate future was bleak; and in light of that, it meant that utilizing the White-Gold Room for any purpose would be little more than a foolish stacking on of suffering, and stress. So Ishtar ... turned away, and intent on leaving the Room behind her, she placed her hand on the door.

Only to pause, as she realized what had led her to coming her in the first place.

    Sarada.

Her attempted words of comfort -- offered with that infuriatingly charming confidence, and excitement -- knocking sense into her enough to at least begin an attempt at thinking her way out of the situation she found herself in ... And as Ishtar stood there with the door beneath her palm, thinking about what Sarada said, and how confident she was this was nothing they hadn't overcome before ... she found she couldn't bring herself to step back out of the White-Gold Room.

Another win, for her Little Love.

    "... damn it."

Leaving the door behind, this time until she finished what she came to do, Ishtar sat and began the process of emptying her mind of all things unnecessary beyond the task at hand. A slow process, considering all that had happened in the past five days; yet one the Oni understood was necessary should she even hope to prove successful ... and once that was finished, the Oni -- sitting cross-legged in the center of the White-Gold Room -- closed her eyes and willed the necessary memories to the fore, the Pendulum Room stepping in to take care of the rest.

And when the Pendulum Room finished generating the mindscape Ishtar willed it to ... the first thing the golden-eyed Oni heard was screaming.

Praxat thinks about the name that Cyanna gave the artifact and rubs her chin, " Hmm Artifact of Temporal Ensnarement huh that's not a bad name. However if Qaztoh was here she would probably called this temporal detection device. Something like The Quantum Temporal Ensnarement Radar. Of course I think we should just call it The Quantum Radar," Praxat said.

Her eyes scanned the confection, and could find no flaw; at least not one that was readily visible. It looked edible and that was the important part. Or, rather, the important part was that this particular Erosa -- far more immature and driven by gratification that her older (?) versions -- was the one who made it and gave it to her. What was more, she was willfully restraining herself.

After moments of silence, Sarada nodded. "We're even." She picked up a fork and started to dig in. Yet, before fork touched food, she paused, then reached over and picked up a knife. She cut a slice and placed it on a plate, then slid it over to Erosa. "Here."
"Pie for Erosa?" The young Erosa pointed to herself, she had secretly wished for it....but was by no means expecting it to happen, Saiyans were as in love with food as Ids were. It caught her off guard. Without a second thought the child picked up the pie, and in id style, ploped the entire thing in her mouth.

Perhaps it was the pie...she hadn't bothered to try any before bringing it out to Sarada, in a feat of unusual willpower for an id of her age, and had no idea how good her own cooking was. Perhaps it was the moment, finally burying the hatchet on a long running event. Perhaps it was one of the Erosas early attempts at using onions in one of the pies.

But child Erosa, mouth full, cupped her hands over it and let out a muffled cry of delight. Her face went flush, tears starting rolling down her eyes and her nose was running something fierce......and with one muffled cry that noone could make out she hopped off to table and ran to the safety of the back kitchen.

Erosa, the child one from years ago, broke into tears the very moment the pie entered her mouth. In a vain, attempt to hide her emotional outburst, she leaped off the table and sprinted into the kitchen. Sarada didn't peg the Id for being so egotistical that she would actually weep over her own cooking, but that just went to show that you never really know someone until you feed them their own pie.

As for Sarada, she was in heaven. Banana cream pie -- along with banana pudding -- was as delicacy on Saiyan worlds. It wasn't her favorite, but it was on the list; though, that list was substantial and never-ending, it seemed.

"This is really good!" she cheered between bites. Parsley attempted to cut a piece for herself, only for the knife to be snatched out of her grasp and pointed at her.

"How can you be so stingy?" she grumbled.

    "Hehe."

As for why she was in the ship to begin with when it spontaneously took off, she was reluctant to say why. The truth was that she was just looking through it; mainly at the behest and urging of her friends, but also to sate her own curiosity. She had been about to leave when the opening suddenly closed up, trapping her inside for what would turn into days. It had resulted in a positive. Parsley was alive and seemingly more affectionate than she had ever been in the past; plus, Sarada was alive and well again after that attempt on her life some days ago.

All was good. She supposed her luck hadn't been all that bad. Now, if she could get this clown to quit trying to take her money, that'd be just great.

"If you must know, it was an accident," she explained. "I was looking through the ship and got trapped." She shrugged.

A Proto-typical Saiyan in that respect. Not that it mattered. It would be a cold day in HFIL before Held Debon let a dollar side because of some cheapskate no name. The Merchant's Guild was always patient, and payment would be collected eventually, and Held made his comrades dedication to the...rocks, or whatever currency they used on Vocado look positively lacking.

"And my ship door just happened to be open?" Held asked, rubbing his temple as he attempted to formulate the particular manner in which he would have to inform Jinzi of the fate that befell his ship.

I mean, technically, it was Jinzi's fault, wasn't it? The Chaff didn't just arrive, after all.

Sure, it wasn't Held's Jinzi, but close enough, right? Atleast until Held got to give the Doctor the bill.

"Yep." Avoca had to pry it open with a crowbar to get inside. The locks on that thing were a bitch and a half, but they stood no chance to the determination of a Saiyan woman with money riding on her being nosy.

I'm glad I won't be here much longer. I can already tell this guy is gonna be a major pain in the ass. She sighed mentally. These jockeys weren't the type to just let money go uncollected because they had a threat levied on them. If anything, they were like those annoying pricks who worked for debt collection agencies. They called, and called, and called, and called, and wouldn't stop no matter how many times she threatened to blow up not just their building, but the planet it was standing on. The fuckers wouldn't stop harassing until she got fed up and just paid them their stupid money.

No, wait. They were worse than debt collectors, but Nevadians showed up at unexpected times to collect their money. Bastard.

"Sure, I learned my lesson. Also, your ship stunk like cheap cologne and even cheaper booze. Never again am I riding in one of your ships."

With that said, she sighed and looked away. "All that being said... thanks for saving Sarada's life. She's been my best friend since we were little girls, and I didn't want to think about what would have happened if she died. Especially since Parsley had also died. So thanks."

And just like that, their side journey was done surprisingly without a hitch. No explosions, nothing being derailed. She supposed the reason she had anticipated it going sideways in some form was her own experience and what they were doing but thankfully in this case her cyncism hadn't been warranted.

"You as well. It was short but it was nice meeting you." The trip was very short so she couldn't do much but she could say it had been interesting.

Karine woke up from her sleep, a bit groggy and out of it before forcing herself to wake up. She yawned slightly rubbing her eyes, mumbling something incoherent before dragging herself out of bad noticing a lack of Totoma. Must of went to do something. Maybe eating. Only half Sayain or not it was one of the truths of being one was self evident. She remembered her disastrous attempts at trying to cook for them when younger they had a lot of heart behind it but the quality was another. Totoma had been all right due to being a Sayain, but afterwards her mother set her aside and made sure her cooking was at least decent.

It wasn't too long after getting from the 'half awake' phase did she see Totoma, Parsley and Sarada eating so she decided to join them. The bickering between the siblings caused Karine to briefly smile, it reminded her of Kylie and Tamaki. Both were normally sweet, sure, but don't let anyone get in the way of their food. "Have I missed anything?"

"I heard it's a barren wasteland," Parsley answered. "But, perhaps there's a fight to be had. I'm hoping so; we'll need all the training we can get before AT2, and Ishtar's alternate."

"The goddess of ruination. I can hardly wait!" Even if Ishtar was terrified and anxious of what she had become in another timeline, Sarada was pumped. It wasn't every day that she got to fight a god -- thought that was going to change sooner or later -- so this was going to be a brand new experience. And probably training for when they eventually crossed paths with Auroc.

Heh, now that was a name she had forgotten all about.

"Can't wait! Miss Ishtar's super-strong, but I've never gotten the chance to cross fists with her, so this is as good a chance as any!" said the halfbreed, clearly excited. "'course, I'd be insane to think I'd have any chance on my own, but I'm sure that we'll manage somehow."

What that 'somehow' was, he didn't have the slightest idea, but between their own Ishtar, three super saiyans, and everything else the rest of the group brought to the table, squeaking by should be doable.

When Karine entered the room, Totoma's mien calmed a bit, at least outwardly. A perceptive individual could pick up on a certain... energy or unrestfulness that arose and was clearly restrained. An even more perceptive person would notice that it was, ahem, desire.

"Ahh, nothing much... Sarada came here to tell me about something an alternate, uh, me told her about how to master the Super Saiyan form, and then pies happened," said Totoma, pulling up a chair for his mate. In reality, he wanted to be cheeky, sit down on the chair, and then motion for her to sit on his lap, but that would probably make things worse.

    ...in several ways.

"So, feeling refreshed after your nap?"
