Interesting . . . I wonder when in the past this will have taken place.

That's a great cover, I wonder though if that owl is just an owl...or secretly a vampire.

That owl does look a lot like Baron Konig.

This came out yesterday. It was fine, but it didn't leave much of an impression on me.

I'll probably re read it. (To be fair, I think the Hickman X-Books have kind of made everything else feel pretty inconsequential to me lately.)

Yeah, House of X and Powers of X are phenomenal so far. Very in line with Hickman’s F4 and Avengers runs.

As for Saturn Returns, it’s very in line with much of Hellboy and the BPRD. Well written and fun, but the stakes are low and it feels a little supplementary.

See, the whole Powers/House of X thing seems pretty muddled for my tastes.

As for this issue itself I felt like though obviously important the Liz plot line should either be in its own book or either a back up feature or short in something like DHP as being cut into the issue proper took away from developing the main story with Hellboy. The concept of investigating a decades long string of serial killings in the woods of New Hampshire has a lot of potential but without the time to develop a sense of mood it comes across as a little flat.

To be clear, I like Hellboy stories like this. I think it was mostly just overshadowed by the more bombastic Hickman stuff. Also being part 1 of 3...

(as an aside, the X books aren't muddled at all. It's actually a pretty clear read, and I haven't read X-anything since the '90s.)

I really enjoyed the first issue, looking forward to seeing what happens.

Have we seen Agent Kinsley and Special Agent Oates before? Oates says "Hellboy knows me." Can't place him at all, and google is no good.
“Don't mess with me, lady. I've been drinking with skeletons.” -- Hellboy.
“Dude, you’re embarrassing me in front of the Wizards.” -- Tony Stark.

I think they're both new characters to readers. Kinsley certainly is (unless she was mentioned in a prose story I haven't read).

I can't believe there exists a Hellboy prose story that you haven't read.

I haven't read most of them actually. I've been holding off, hoping Dark Horse would publish nicer editions. I'd certainly like Christopher Golden's three novels in a hardcover omnibus that sits comfortably next to the comics.

    That would be nice!
