Sandman had a natural and organic change of heart that started with a friendship with Ben Grimm post-merger with Hydro-Man and grew until he was a reserve Avenger. Then somebody (maybe Byrne in his terrible Spider-Man book) did a lot of heavy lifting to artificially undo all the natural character growth that had been done. Sandman's currently somewhere in the middle of the road and someone should really permanently push him to the side of good, since that was where his true nature ultimately lies anymore.

Sandman never even turned bad again he was mind controlled by wizard. Funny thing is he still is and no one even bothered to help him get rid of his mind control. Worse his "friend" the thing has the cure to that same ray in his closet and never tried to help him. They even did a issue of the thing were thing was wanting him to turn good again and he said no and the whole time readers were screaming "he is not evil he is under mind control you jerk!" to the comic!

It's like marvel wants you to forget he is under wizards mind control machine.

Sandman never turned evil again and marvel could put him back good again anytime if they wanted to.


To me doom turning bad again. I am so worn out and tired of doom after the last secret wars and the fixed face "anti hero" doom was a nice breath of fresh air and great way to change things up but nope. Face messed up again and back to the same evil doom to retell the same blasted story we have seen 2000 times. Ugh.

eventually, they will reveal that all the Wizard's device really did was undo the work of some not-yet-seen behavior modification device that was used on Sandman (by Reed Richards or someone else).

the Sandman situation is so messed up. From what i understand, Mackie undid it with no explanation whatsoever, just Ben saying he had been keeping an eye on him and that he didn't trust that he was really a good guy, and was proven right. And because his turn had been well received, there was fan outcry over it. So the mind control thing was retconned in later by Brevoort to explain why he was suddenly a bad guy again, so there was at least a reason. And obviously, mind control does give an easy out to put him back on track later, which was probably at least part of the reason they went with that, but no one ever followed up on it, and now it's probably too late.
