Changing a handful of circumstances, yes, it would be possible to tell it on 616. The main issues with AoXM stem from what most people already know:

1. Disassembled was bad.
2. A pseudo-weekly format for six months, in the year 2019 of our lord and saviour Scott Summers.
3. It's entirely set on an AU where everyone is amnesiac, which makes it so all the books follow more or less the same structure.
4. The concept doesn't lend itself to 32 issues for half a year.
5. Uncanny is running right along with it, happening in the main universe, even though the only big names are Scott and Logan.
6. Concepts like Nightcrawler and Prisoner X could do waaaay better in main universe instead of being wasted here.

The numbers should surprise nobody.

Supposedly the books get more attention digitally. If that's the case, then X-Office is making out well. Iceman had bad numbers with good DS, and got a following series because of it.

Marvel told twice that AOXM doesn't matter, continuing uncanny on 616 world and then when announced Hickman minis.

People need to stop blaming the lack of marketing for how poor it's doing. There have been plenty of unimportant satellite books selling between 20-30k in recent years. AoXM selling below 20k by its second month (out of six) is an Inhumans-sized flop.
