If they want an audience surrogate they could have used Johnny Cage or Sonya for that. They weren't aware of any of the Outworld nonsense when they got involved. Johnny thought it was a standard material arts tournament and Sonya was forced to participate by Shang Tsung when she got captured trying to save Jax.

Johnny thought it was a standard material arts tournament and Sonya was forced to participate by Shang Tsung when she got captured trying to save Jax.

There's controversy whichever way you go. You can do Liu Kang, which has already been done. Then later stories/games have switched to a Cage/Sonya as lead characters, but this has also caused a little bit of backlash because then you get accused of "white washing the story" and removing the Asian Character(s) as leads.

Looks like they tried to meet in the middle in for this--and cast a biracial actor (and looks like bi-racial character).

Well, there are lots of rumors that he's not ACTUALLY an OC at all, and will be revealed to be a pretty major MK character by film's end. Will be interesting to see if any of those turn out to be true. Either way, I expect the excrement to hit the fan from some subsets of fans.

Mechad Brooks channeling his inner Jon Jones as Jax looks good. Aslo glad the first 10mins is dedicated to setting up Hanzos and Bi-Hams back story. If this turns into a trilogy hopefully Scorpion becomes a main character. Hated what the OG movie did with him.

I believe the script was panned and has supposedly been changed a lot, but some big ideas may remain. But some of the ideas may remain, you can check it out if you want. Has a possible outcome for Cole.
