Seems like there's going to be an obvious twist with the Ed Spelers character.

    Okay it's fantastic.

It's a love letter to both TNG and TWOK.

    Much better start than S1 & S2.

Opening and closing credits/music is much better with lots of Easter eggs!

Hopefully this ends with Captain Seven.

Anybody remember an old fan theory about Wesley actually being Picard's son with Beverly? This seems a bit similar with his half-brother. Also seems obvious that the Daystrom Institute is where Lore and possibly Moriarty come in.

I feel it may be as far back as The X-Files. Then Buffy TVS, LOST, ALIAS and HEROES had runs of strong examples. By the time we get into the 21st century with Cable outlets producing content and reduced episode counts per season it was largely standard. By the age of Streaming it would be hard for someone born pre-2000 to know of anything different almost.

If anyone thinks of a better pre-90s example than X-Files I'm game. To argue myself, even X-Files had plenty of stand alone epss within its season arc episodes so maybe the example is post-TXF.
I'm not entirely sure X-Files counts for this. Yes, they had a mythology that ran throughout the show, but by and large I remember X-Files being mostly stand-alone episodes, with mythology episodes peppered throughout the season.

For serialization, the first that comes to mind is Buffy. Then Sliders, of all things. Earlier than that, yeah, I'd say The Fugitive. Even The Incredible Hulk- every week he hulked out, helped someone, and then moved on to stay ahead of McGee.

It was better than I thought it would be. The captain character was pretty funny.

Star Trek: Picard 3x01 'The Next Generation' gets 8.5/10 for...
    1) Character interactions based on friendship and respect, not tension and needless drama.
    2) Ship shots not washed out with blue filters and lens flare and shaky cam. Just sweet, sweet ship porn.
    3) Beverly Crusher being bad ass!
    4) Seven of Nine continuing to be a bad ass who has had enough of your ****!
    5) Riker and Picard as the about to retire buddy cop duo I never knew I needed.
    6) Literally spelling out in the dialogue that the past has its place and should be respected while moving forward!!!!!
If I still smoked, I'd be having a cig right now. Bring on episode 2!

I won't spoil it but the music during the main end credits is literally my favourite Star Trek score.

Already better than anything we got in seasons 1&2, IMHO. I wish we had got season 3 first, oh well....

Hey...this was good! Oh my God that pig just grew wings!

    The Good.

The fact that there is good stuff to list, and it outnumbered the bad stuff.

Picard isn't a broken down bitter person.

The show seems to be ignoring the fact that Picard died.

    Will Riker is still awesome.

Shoving most of the new cast out of an airlock

Picard's housekeeper stuck around! And she has a new job? Look I get, going out with your boss is a bad look so the show wanted to go in a different direction, but the fans are cool with her being an ex spy/housekeeper. Someone has to watch the chateaux or..go along with him on the missions? She is the only new addition to the cast people liked.

Picard's new son. C'mon he has to be his.

    What I didn't like.

Seven Of Nine on the verge of tears because she hates her boss. Uhhh Seven? Almost everyone in the universe hates their boss. This is not making me feel sympathy for you, if anything this is making me feel the opposite. He made you go by your human name? That's it? Captain Jellico relived Riker of command and made Troi change clothes. Eventually Riker got his command back but Troi was never allowed to wear her old clothes again. You wouldn't have lasted ten seconds under Jelico LOL.

RAFFI. She didn't do anything wrong, but the character was soooooo bad the first two seasons that she is going to have to go the entire first half of the season without being terrible to make it out of the doghouse.

I think it's more that the new boss hates 7. Even Jellico kept things professional. This guy is openly rude and belligerent and petty and obviously has some kind of issue with the Borg. Did he barely survive Wolf 359?

As for Raffi... This is genuinely the first time I've enjoyed her character. I appreciate the struggle to keep herself clean while in the worst possible situation: playing a junkie while having no emotional support but still doing her job. That's someone I can respect.

And you can't tell me that her handler isn't Worf. The handler did call her a warrior.

I'm a bit disappointed that quantum tunneling technology was taken literally for use as a weapon. What is this? Portal?

Ι just saw the first episode.
It feels like an entirely different series in terms of tone, writing, characterization and direction.
I really liked it and I pretty sure this will please everyone or at least the majority of Trekkers and Trekkies.
Of course, I have some minor issues....
Whatever happened to the wormhole from S2? It wasn't even mentioned and it was presented as a major concern for the wellbeing of everyone in Alpha Quantrant.
The Titan-A... It doesn't giving me any 25th Century vibes at all. It is a ship better suited for the cinematic part of the TOS era. I still doesn't understand their refusal to use the Enerprise F as the main ship.
Captain Shaw... I really want to throw HIM in the nearest airlock.
    Raffi still being a thing.

That's why it's the "new constitution class" its obviously being made as a tribute to the original constitution class that Starfleet started with. Probably for the parade that both Riker and Picard were supposed to do speeches for. I assume its some big anniversary of the federation or something

I actually thought the quote "new refit" meant they upgraded Riker's old ship not rebuilt a new one but new refit can mean many things so you can be right ..

I guess it's a Ship of Theseus situation with the Titan, same as the original Constitution refit: how much of the old ship remained? It's cute to mirror the modernized movie Constitution refit by having a modern ship refit in the style of a Constitution.
I'm loving the classic Starfleet vessels flying around Spacedock, and I really like Beverly's ship design. I hope it survives.
