When it comes to big events, absolutely. Although, the TPB collections are generally a good indicator of which stories were actually necessary to begin with, even if it takes them a few kicks at the can before they get it right (looking at you Final Crisis).
Sometimes, I am taking out entire scenes. My head canon editor is ruthless sometimes.
