But I will happily take a world where diversity is the biggest problem with X-Books, unlike recent years where it's been knocked out of top 10. It'll just remain one of the things the Avengers do better.
Agreed. X-Men is for whites. All you others quit whining or go away all together. lol Some would like more diversity given how much the X-Men focuses on oppression, accepting those who are different, etc. Like Rahne. It appeared to be a reference to trans panic. But why not ever have an actual trans mutant dealing with these issues. Instead of inserting "acceptable" characters into the role under pretense of diversity. lol

But I agree diversity is only one thing. We have numerous other issues with the franchise.

    1. Solos for certain characters disguised as team books. If you're doing an X-team book, treat all the characters with respect. Give them all depth, shining moments, and development. Rather than limiting those things to 1 or 2 characters while the rest become cheerleaders, wallpaper, or accessories.

    2. Continuity is a HELL of an issue. lol Don't give a characters 2+ different backstories. Wolverine, Deadpool, and Sabretooth have all suffered this. And the so-called "memory implants" was just a cheap way to retcon stuff at the drop of a hat.

Characterization falls under continuity too. You get the same character written completely different depending on a writer's mood. Keep characters consistent. If a character's moral alignment is changing, put a story to that. Don't just have characters going back & forth between good and evil based on the week day. Same with intelligence. If a character has been known to be smart in the past, don't make them insect-brained just because you needed a dumb character for your story. lol Use a character who's already dumb, rather than turning a smart one into a moron. I think Emma had this happen. She got that "Diamond Form" because the writer needed a tank & Colossus was elsewhere. So now we have that random power for Emma. Hell they could've used Bling! I think she's got a solid more tank-like form. Forgive me if I am wrong, as I am not as familiar with her. But I am sure Colossus isn't the only tank around and they could've gotten someone else rather than inserting Emma into that role.

Morrison wanted to write Lord Fanny so he wanted Emma for her personality not powers. She barely used her diamond offensively in his run

Also Storm was going to have the affair with Scott initially

If that's true, thank God Storm was spared from that. lol Another issue is triangles. Where everyone involved comes off looking bad.

Really that's an issue in general. Pairings. There;s this notion that ships don't work without getting toxic. So even if a relationship was perfectly fine, writers come in with their ideas to "shake things up" and both characters get destroyed for cheap drama or to sink the ship so they can put the character with someone else.

Rogue x Gambit are on a timer. Who knows how long. But eventually, someone's gonna end up cheating and we'll get a messy era before the separation / divorce. lol

We don't know that, just that Morrison wanted to use her before he came up with the idea to use Emma. Maybe he would to that, maybe he wouldn't.

Maybe the conversation of diversity would be taken more seriously if it weren't so transparently "I'm mad my favorite D-list character doesn't get the spotlight."

And why exactly? Are they "D-list" in the first place? More often than not it's because Marvel want's to push the same old characters while neglecting the wealth of other X-men characters to use.

Well my favorite d-list character is white. So I can't blame diversity for that.

Butt I do think that complaint is understandable when you have characters like Glob, Blob, and Mojo recently getting so much exposure. I'd have rather had Maggot in Age of X getting cozy with Psylocke as opposed to Blob. lol

Very few characters just started off beloved. They became such after some time being used, getting development, exposure, and legit writing. Some characters really don't have much to work with. So yeah, limited face-time is understandable. But, even though some hate hearing this, some really do have potential to catch on if the right writer took them seriously & started trying to develop them. The seeds are planted, but nobody wantto water them. lol

I think of Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was supposed to be a one-off villain who got killed early on. But when James Marsters got the role, they were impressed with how he played Spike and began to experiment with the character more. So rather than getting killed off, he was crippled for a bit before recovering. Then he became more popular than Angel, who came before him. Then he was brought over the Angel's series to prop it up since it was on verge of being cancelled.

Hickman, baby, your era can't start soon enough.

I love his answer to the costume thing, it honestly makes sense.
Yay his faves align with most of mine.
    Mikey Carey love.

But most of all his emphasis on not repeating things. I like how the teams and schools won't be what we expect. We really need a shake up from this tired formula.

    This will be great.
