Yes but why then proceed to cut his legs off and get rid of him before he gets to 100 issues? Vetoing his idea is one thing, but deciding he needs to go is another thing entirely.

Is that suppose to be a good thing? What happened was pretty much a disaster with the artist Tony Daniel stepping in as writer instead and is pretty much just one more example of New 52 firing someone out of the blue and not having a backup plan to replace him and typical of the chaos of the superbooks during that entire period.

Right now we can only speculate. But maybe King didn’t want to or didn’t see the need to go 100+ issues after some of his plans got cancelled.

WHY? Tell us why this happened!! Right after all those interviews.

Now we get NO resolution to the Batman/Catwoman relationship.

"Beyond that — and this is recent — I've been talking to, not just DC, but Warner Brothers and AT&T. What we're going to do for the last 15 issues is something no one's ever seen for the character. It's something that's going to change the character for a generation, or maybe more. Maybe forever. I never thought we'd get this kind of stuff approved; when you're working with a corporate character, you think you’re going to have to reset. But this is a change that's going to shake the world of Batman and it's going to leave my mark on the character.

So that's coming. (Laughs.) All I have to do is land it."

Seems it was approved at the top too. Or at least King seems under the impression that it was.

This is SO messed up. All those promises. It really was all for nothing.

DC is bad at managing talent. News at 12.

And if you are going to have the talent say on the record about 100 issue runs then either let them do it or tell them to shut up and deny everything otherwise it makes the place seem dysfunctional.

I think having your top property drop close to 40k in sales in a year, even if part of that was the wedding buildup, still dropped around 20k from the previous writer, is a pretty good reason to drop a writer. Sure, it’s normally DC’s top seller but it’s still down a lot for Batman. That along with HiC probably hurt King’s credibility at DC. He’s a very divisive writer and that’s not good for sales. He’s critically acclaimed by other writers but that doesn’t translate into sales. Whether you believe it or not, DC seems to think that enough of the fan base has had it with his writing to at least get him off their flagship book. If anything this lets creators know that if they can’t do a good job, DC will find someone who can. He only thing that surprises me is that they took this long to give him the boot.

King is still moving around 160k of Batman a month for them.

Also if this is about his sales for DC, they wouldn’t kick him off unless they have a replacement ready they were confident was gonna do better.
And thats keeping in mind the schedule. Cause it’s one thing to get say someone like Morrison on Batman, it another thing to get someone like Morrison on Batman so they can publish it twice a month.

Literally only because of double shipping. Single issues are way down. Let’s have some context here.

So? The individual issues are still in the monthly top 10 lists and outselling guys like Bendis, Morrison and Johns.

I wouldn't put too much money into DC's internal prognostications seeing how they bet heavily on Bendis with the Superbooks and get rid of Jurgens and Tomasi only for his sales to quickly fall. It's probably another one of DC's sure things that'll probably end up blowing up in their faces.

50 years of reading most of DC's books religiously, especially Batman. I have never been more invested in Batman or more disappointed in DC. I freaking hate this.
