No character is redundant when written well

Way back, as a super-strong feral bad-guy with permanent facial scars from a fight with Spider-Man where he ripped webbing off of his face and the webbing turned out to be stronger than the skin of his face (ouchie!), he was intriguing as an Iron Fist/Spider-Man foe.

Once the X-team glommed onto him and gave him Wolverine powers, his entire role has been how much he is or isn't like Wolverine, and since Wolverine is pretty much as badass as he can get, Creed can't ever grow or change in any meaningful way, being 100% defined by his relationship to Wolverine (and since being absorbed by the X-franchise and becoming a regenerator, 'never changing' is literally one of his super-powers).

    That's boring.

As 'anti-Wolverine's go, Deathstrike intrigues me more, because she can lose parts, and get upgrades (and yet each 'upgrade' representing a loss of yet more of her humanity...). She's way more dynamic, and has a more interesting personal / emotional arc, IMO, than Creed will ever be allowed to have.

No more redundant than Carnage. And the latter is hard to avoid lately. They need to stop making him look like Tyler Mane and treating him like a dumb thug.

And don't forget, people pointing out how it seems like the film Brotherhood back together in POX. More Tyler Mane for ya. That's a bad sign if it's true. Him becoming a Brotherhood member is where his character assassination started.

    In comes Chuck Austen.

Creed's been on the following teams.
    • The Marauders
    • Exodus's Brotherhood
    • Avengers 1959 -this was the worst one!
    • Pak's Weapon X

He was a useless moron in all of them. Writers wanna use him for a dumb team bruiser, and since he's always getting his ass beat, he's useless. Only Bunn was an exception to doing this. Otherwise, use Glob or Blob for dumb team muscle. Creed does not fit there.

If Creed is working for Magneto & Mystique in POX, it may not be any different. The lesser evil would be using him as a baddie they have to fight, which means no romance with Mystique. He gets beaten once & disappears, compared to being on a team where the jobbing would be continuous for multiple chapters. lol

There have only been two times to me when Sabertooth was interesting character, one was when the Fox movies made him Logan half brother (this should have Victor origin in the comics) the other is when Sabertooth was written by Neal Adams in the storyline: First X-Men.

Concerning the jobbing, every battle between Logan and Victor should be a too-close-to-call affair, with Creed maybe having the slight edge in spite of Logan's skeleton.

Anything that says or shows Sabretooth as vastly inferior to Wolverine (even with Logan fighting smart and pulling dirty tricks) should be ignored, IMO.

Also, Sabretooth as Logan's real daddy... yea or nay?

I wasn't opposed to the idea. It would've been better than all the mess we have now in terms of Logan's family. And Dog Logan was the worst, whom FOX merged with Sabretooth (brilliant /sarcasm) and now tons of people think the two of them are bothers.

Plus Sabretooth being Wolverine's father would explain the similarities with reason, rather than Creed being too much of a rip-off that just randomly exists. lol In general, I preferred Claremont's vision. Creed as the father, and this original who is better than his son. It gives Logan a genuine struggle, and a more personal one of living to to and trying to surpass his father. Plus using Creed's existing backstory, unlike his son, he actually did succeed in killing his father.

But sadly, Claremont left and didn't exactly confirm a lot of things, so much as just left hints and badda boom, subsequent writers ignored and started their own visions.

He and his former lover Mystique had their best times in the 90's. Now they are a reason for mr. TPP NOT buy issues they are in because it became boring.

Creed has jobbed to, by my recollection
    Iron Fist
    Wolverine (often)
Jean Grey (twice, once when he was still susceptible to telepaths, then again when he was on the run following his escape.....both times Logan wasn’t around.....both times Creed didn’t even get past the TK field)
Cyclops (took a tight angled Optic Blast to the forehead)
    Gambit

I’m sure there are more......but Wolverine and Iron Fist are his two most well known classic foes

I am very, very grateful that the comicbook character Sabretooth is NOT the half-brother or biological father of the comicbook character Wolverine.

I thought he was great as Iron Fist's primary nemesis, but I lost track of him after that.......

Well the chracter of Sabretooth are pretty much 2 different things now. His presence in a fight and his backstory. Sometimes it feels writers just include him for his backstory and skip the part where he has any impact on the fight.

X-men, Marvel and comics has evolved so much over the years that Sabretooth needs to be rebooted. What was scary back then doesn't work quite the same way these days. What was unique isn't.

In essence Sabretooth is suppose to be a menacing presence that frightens characters. The first step is an easy one. Is Logan involved in comic/arc you are writting? Then make sure Sabretooth is stronger, faster and deadlier then him. Base your fights around witch characters can beat Logan? If yes then they should believably be able to fight Sabretooth. Every character of course can beat him in a story. Just under the right circumstances. Make them work for it.

Work with this presence and unpredicatability. Maybe not even show his whole body and face clearly. Let him hurt characters. Make it feel that he brings danger to the situation. The easiest way to show this is have him hurt people. You can also do what Fabian did in his Gambit solo. There Sabretooth let Remy pick who he wanted to save. The innocent girl or his brother. Any fight where Sabrettoth can inflict lasting fear and anger in his oponents are good fights for him.
