Valiant help. Newbie

I have been interested in getting into this universe for a while but I have absolutely no idea where to start. I have very little knowledge of any of the stories.

When you look at the characters what are the top 2-3 that visually grab you? Do you have questions on those?

What type of characters do you like at other publishers, perhaps you want to try something similar at Valiant? If so some of us here can point you in that direction.
