Good of DC to find the right compromise that will please no one.

Except store owners who only want Batman books on the shelf. Now they have yet another series.

It sends a bad message to practically everyone that Harras is willing to mess them up if the content somehow doesn't meet his approval (especially when he was just 15 issues from 100). If DC is willing to do that to one of their top creators while keeping Harras's friends around, it pretty much says to potential talent that DC is not a good place to work for.

The mistreatment of Dwayne McDuffie on JLA, Dan's behavior towards certain characters, Titan butchering events, failures to develop characters that win over fans OUTSIDE of comics, editors controlling runs & folks being on books that they did not want to do-were more than a big enough hint at that.

Folks are still going to come to DC because having one of their books on your resume still speaks volumes to some folks. Especially if it's a character seen in movies or tv shows.

I haven't been reading King's run, but he's not wrong that Clay Mann is a great artist. It's too bad Marvel never put him on anything bigger than X-Men Legacy while they had him. Not that I'm sad he was on Legacy, his work on Age of X especially was great.

I guess this is a nice compromise as far as letting King fulfill his story while also taking him off the main Bat-book. Plus, with Mann, it'll look nice .

I do wonder if this means the big change King was hyping up will either not happen or won't end up being as big of a deal in the long run since I don't expect this maxi-series to end up mattering to the other Bat-books that much.

Sigh...I liked the bimonthly schedule for Batman. Now we have to wait a year to get the conclusion to Tom King's story instead of 6 months (after December). But titling it Batman/Catwoman makes it seem that the Bane storyline will end before #85 and this will be a more romantic/honeymoon-esque story; which is not really my cup of tea.

This is a brilliant compromise on DC's part. King can continue to conclude his story and appeal to his niche fanbase, while he is basically put out of the public spotlight. Sure it might sell well, but once the news is announced of who will replace him on the main Batman title, I promise you Tom King will become as irrelevant as Paris Hilton.

Hopefully, this is an awakening call to King for him to write better stories. It might seem impossible now, but in five years, if he subsequently pumps out comics after his Batman fiasco that were of the same tier as The Vision or Mister Miracle he will redeem himself in the eyes of the comics fandom. Not everyone would forgive him, obviously, but look at Frank Miller: After books such as Dark Knight Strikes Again, All Star Batman and Robin, and Holy Terror, Miller was a near universially hated figure. However, after his return to comics with Dark Knight: The Master Race, showing that he could still pen a comic that's relatively okay, his reputation, while not completely recovering, did get better.

People don't remember Tony Daniel's first Batman run. They remember Batman and Robin.

Unless they have some major writer lined up, it'll be filler arcs until the issue #100 blowout issue introducing the actual new team's run. Moving it to a mini isn't going to stop it from being viewed as the "main" Batman book unless they have their big guns lined up right after it moves over. If it's going to be filler, they should have just kept King on the book until his run ended.

That's a good point. i think they probably want to keep the Batman ongoing a top seller, they probably do have someone major lined up (probably Bendis).

I'm looking forward to this Batman/Catwoman series. While King certainly has had his misses, he's mostly been hits, IMHO. What I'm not looking forward to? The arc after arc of fill-in teams until #100. I can almost guarantee you next to zero consistency. Unless it's an anthology type book like Batman Black & White this just won't work.
