There's nothing saying it's something that can be rarely pulled off, especially since its just "opening one of my transportation portals and closing it before the enemy gets all the way through". The only reason we have that he didn't do it against Thanos was because then the heroes would win and there would be no need for Endgame to happen.

I still say that he didn't use it because he saw that trying to portal cut a guy who has the Space and Reality Stones, especially amped by the Power Stone, would have been a waste of energy.
