Default Stories you wish were still canon.

Which stores are no longer canon that you wish still were?

    Batman: Year One.

    Gotham Central.

    Donna Troy's pre-Crisis origin.

    Birthright.

    DC Universe: Rebirth Special

Body wasn't even cold before Didio pissed on it.

    Robin: Year One.

    The New Teen Titans.

Wally's tenure as the Flash, more or less, is hazy in terms of what's in or out.

Geoff Johns' work on the JSA.

    Cassandra Cain's Batgirl series
    Huntress: Cry for Blood

    Did JLA unhappen?

Is it weird and cheating to say the intended ending to Armageddon: 2001? I really want to see that . . .

Oh, and as a "so glad they aren't canon anymore" - can I nominate War Games and War Crimes?

Thanks to all the continuity reboots and revamps, it's all canon these days. Even if it doesn't seem like it fits, you can fit it in there if you want. Currently, Bendis, King, Snyder, & Johns have all been following Morrison's longstanding "Everything Counts, it's all canon" approach to continuity.

Bendis has outright stated that all past Superman stories are now back in play, irregardless of whether or not it fits thanks to the near constant series of time shenanigans Lois, Clark & Jon have gone through.

Likewise, King has taken the same approach with Batman. There's a running joke between Bruce & Selina over how they first met, with Batman insisting it was how they met in Batman: Year One while Catwoman is always correcting him by insisting it was how they met originally in Batman #1 from 1940.

So, yeah, Batman Year One is canon. So is Gotham Central since Rene Montoya still worked for the GCPD became the Question for bit, then went back to being herself again. Donna Troy still remembers her pre-Crisis origin, she just isn't sure if it's real or not because her and Diana's history has been mucked with so many times by the Gods and various time shenanigans. Same goes for Birthright. There's plenty of that story that still works if you want to fit it into the giant buffet that is now Superman's history.

Hell, even Jim Lee said DC was comfortable letting the fans decide what is or isn't canon for themselves. Essentially, the only past continuity that matters is what's relevant to the stories being told right now, so you should make up your own mind what that past continuity looks like. If one peice of continuity doesn't really mesh with another, you can explain it away as the logical result of a history that has been blown up and put back together so many times that some the pieces will never fit, so just enjoy the ride.

In other words, the history of the DCU is whatever you want it to look like and if some new story comes out that contradicts that, a wizard did it.

My dream for the future of DC continuity is a combination of the origins and stories of Pre Crisis, and the continuation of that narrative with Post Crisis minus the retcons, and the redeemable parts of Rebirth that are still comparable with those continuities.

All the stories told in the present day New Earth (Post Crisis) and (Prime Earth) would still be intact, but the orgins that came with those rifts in the universe based status quo (Batman Year One, portions of George Perez's Wonder Woman and Byrne's Superman, JLA Year One) wi be replaced by the original Silver Age origins.

I don't think I'm articulating this ever well, but to sum it up what I think the exemplary means of going about the DC Universe is to act as if Rebirth and and post COIE never had the alterations to DC history as they did, and instead were just natural continuations of Earth 1*

*aside from the implementation of the JSA into main continuity.
