I kinda think Morrison connected those dots for us. If you look back at Multiversity in the pages that explain each Earth the "Marvel" one has it's "Thor" raising his arm in the same pose that Marvel was using at the time for a Thor cover during Secret War.

I got the opposite impression: Dr. Manhattan was supposed to help Carver and save his life. He didn't and that's part of why things are falling apart now(besides the other incidents of Dr.Manhattan messing with time).

If Doctor Manhattan hadn't helped Carver in the first time back in 1938, would his path been the same or gone in a different direction?

Yeah, I think he'll be Jon Osterman again before this is all over, and possibly sacrifice himself for Carver.

I don't see this story ending on a downer ending. It'll end with hope. And a Never-Ending Battle for Truth & Justice.

I think they’ll merge the Watchmen Characters into DC proper......then in a few months time introduce a far weaker Manhattan (who has his humanity but lacks the full God Powers.....)
