being completely close-lipped about the x-men serves one purpose only. to suffocate the brand to the point where there is no interest left.

You know, I've been following comics for a while now, and I can't really recall very many or actually any writers who divulged long term plans beyond we have long term plans. Plus most of the X-Books outside of Bendis have had some pretty serious shake-ups and Marvel may still be weighing their options. None of that shows us that there is anything going on, all it means is they aren’t sharing.

As far as the comment Bendis made, "I was told when I started writing the X-Men that there is a very small part of the readership that feels very persecuted". Thats not an insult its a statement of fact, something he was told, why did this come up because a single anonymous post on the message about Marvel cancelling the X-Men, and without any evidence the whole thing blew up. Its snowballed all over the place without any actual shred of evidence. Seems in retrospect that what he was told was in fact correct.

I think its also important to note nobody is saying that Marvel is doing everything right and has the best interests of the X-Line and its fans at heart. Everyone recognizes that Marvel's priorities are going to be properties that they can profit from the most, thats a given. That does not however mean that everything is all doom and gloom. Marvel still profits greatly from the X-Men and they aren't going to sabotage that quickly or easily. Are they going to do things that piss us off as fans? Yes, they always have, we are not going to agree with or like all of the things they choose to do with the X-Brand. But until we actually get some real evidence, not wild speculation or supposition based upon Bleeding Cool (Who also shot down the cancellation rumor, just to illustrate how far fetched it was) or on things that were said by some guy who totally knows somebody who knows something.

Now if you want to discuss what they have actually screwed up lets start a thread about that and then we can bitch and complain to our hearts content about things that have actually happened… On second thought lets not, it’ll just turn into another Cyclops thread and rehash AvX for the billionth time.

People no longer rely primarily upon retailers to advise them or to order for them anymore. Many of us go through Comixology and exercise our own judgment. We read who the artist and writer is; we evaluate the development of future storylines from interviews, solicitations, covers and sample art. If this is going to work, we need full information.

you want to know Marvel's long term plans for the X-books?

    1. publish various x-books
    2. profit

    and sometimes

    3. laugh at paranoid x-fans all the way to the bank.

what makes you so easily jump to paranoia? it is clear that marvel is dismantling the x-men to make them fade away.

    1. cyclops - a bonafide terrorist now on the run from the law.
    2. jean grey - never coming back
    3. wolverine - about to be killed with no plans for resurrection
    4. charles xavier - turned traitor against his children, killed, and now his reputation dragged through the mud post-mortem
    5. rogue - kidnapped and held captive by the avenger office
    6. beast - ruined beyond all recognition
    7. storm - given solo with no promotion whatsoever

these are our a-list x-men and look what has been done with them. on top of marvel's admission that they will no longer be promoting the x-men brand. this is not paranoia, these are facts.

the x-men are in danger plain and simple.

Yeah, because we were just mindless drones before the internet - buying whatever the "retailers" told us too. We did have magazines, mailing list, Usenet, fanzines, letter pages, fan clubs and cons. We were never bereft of information, it just took a little longer to get to us.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean the world isn't out to get me!

Well, 5 are featured regularly in monthly titles, with one of those having his own (younger self) solo, and another one featured in multiple monthly titles plus a solo.

One is dead (but referenced to quite often) with her younger self running around in a title and another is dying soon (with tons of related promotional material).

    Sufficient answer?

no. why didn't the VIEW cover storm instead of female thor? one is a moment in comic book publishing history and one is a marketing gimmick. guess which?
