Joker (2019) alleged script leak (warning: possible spoilers)

It actually sounds life a pretty decent flick. That said, it's really not something I care for in a Joker movie. I wasn't planning on seeing this in the theaters before and this only cements that gut reaction.

You can't help but wonder how well this would have floated with the general audience if it wasn't anything to do with Batman.

Honestly, I don't care. It's an non-continuity Elseworld movie that looks to be well crafted and well acted, I couldn't give a flip how an Elseworld differs from main continuity, just as long as it looks like it'll be an enjoyable movie to watch, and for me, so far, it totally does.

I think that's a great approach. But your average movie-goer has no idea that the term "elsewworlds" even exists.

No, but they'll learn eventually, and they're bound to figure out that this film doesn't appear to be the Joker from Suicide Squad, and they'll figure out when The Batman comes out that it's a different continuity too. They might not be used to it like us fans, but they're not stupid (well, not completely, although the low box office of a great film like Godzilla currently has me questioning...). And if the movie is great, does it matter if the audience is a little confused about if this is in continuity with some other movies or not? As long as they liked the movie it shouldn't be a problem.

Actually talking about it makes me think I should see the widely praised action parts on the big screen. Maybe I will see it in theaters, I like the actors so maybe the Humans wont bother me as much.

Eh, to each their own but King of the Monsters has easily been one of my best experiences at the theater yet and I can't understand why its underperforming so badly. It's a real spectacle.

Yeah but 1) honestly it's just normal action movie fare. I mean you can say this same thing about every single one of the Transformers movies, and yet most of them did well, and this is nowhere near as stupid as those and 2) honestly, it's really not that bad, it's mostly just the critic reviews, and for some reason the critics seem to be having a hard on for hating this film, but the audience reviews and non-critic word of mouth is really good! It's like the reverse of the 2014 film where the critics were more favorable to that one but the audiences and the fans were a lot more divided, here the critics are decidedly unfavorable to it but the audiences and fans are largely enjoying it more. Please do not judge this on its RT score but go watch it and decide for yourself!

Honestly, I'd say more lacking on the human element rather than bad, and really not worse than many better reviewed action movies (seriously, the critics really seem to be hating this unfairly for some reason beyond me). But if you hated 2014 this is the movie for you because it's the exact opposite, and is much closer to Skull Island than the 2014 film. Seriously, every fault people had with the first film was corrected here. Different director, different feel and tone, a lot more fun and action packed and no long boring hide the monster pull away from the action crap. People should not judge this based on the first film.

I'm afraid most people are going with this mindset, which is horrible because when they watch it and decide it really isn't that bad and is actually quite fun it'll have already flopped. Home sales never save a film after the fact, and this film really deserves better. Such a huge improvement after the first, the Godzilla film I've been waiting for, and yet poor critic reviews and bad feelings from the first have seemingly doomed it. I guess I probably won't be getting a third film, not counting Godzilla vs Kong.

I definitely think you'll be doing yourself a favor, I really didn't find the humans that bad, just kind of neutral and serviceable, which isn't great but again I've seen far worse in movies that have done far better, and those action scenes really deserve to be seen on a big screen. If you're disappointed than we probably couldn't be more different individuals, I mean I seriously had a hell of a fun time.

As long as they keep it seperate I am cool with it even if I have no plans to ever watch it. If they try and get cute and tie it in to other movies than I am really not going to be happy. I don't even want it tied into the new Batman movies.

Yeah, what on earth from what we've seen or heard about this and the new Batman stuff makes you think they would ever get cute and try to connect the two? That's just ungrounded fan worry.

Phoenix is a great actor but Heath Ledger's blistering performance is a hard act to follow.

Reactions from the test screenings

- I don't recall much CGI. maybe a scene where Joker jams scissors into someone's eye. But yeah, it's very practical. He's not "Joker" and doing crazy **** till the 3rd act. It feels like a film that was completely unrelated to DC but it was similar enough they set it in Gotham but that's not a bad thing.

- Joker doesn't kill Bruce's parents, he causes an uprising after commiting murder on live TV that brings out a war between the rich and the poor. One of the men kills the waynes as it's happening and it's treated like just one of the many bad things going on at that point showing now the poor are in control and the rich are being disregarded. But there's nothing implying he's not the real Joker. He lives in the end.

- He's not a pedo. He believes he's the son of Thomas Wayne and goes to Wayne Manor and tries to make a connection with Bruce and then Alfred yells him away.

- In final Joker goes to Arkham. The smile he cuts on his face with glass in the previous scene is all stitched up and his head is shaved. His social worker there asks to see his journal he's supposed to keep up with and he says he has and she looks at it and it's blank and joker smiles and hears That's Life by Frank Sinatra in his head and dances to it and the credits roll.

- Joaquin blows any other performance in a comic movie of the last 5 years out of the water. Cinematography is great.

- Plenty of swearing. Zazie beetz rides on top of a dude naked. Some blood in the final act.

- He kills his mom. But you just see the hospital curtains and jokers feet shuffling around. It's implied he suffocates her with a pillow.

- He wants to be a standup comedian but he's not funny at all. He just laughs a lot due to a condition that makes him uncontrollably laugh when he's nervous or sad or angry

- The Bruce stuff is fine but it's not necessary. He's only in 2 scenes so he's only in maybe like 2 minutes max so it's not too bad.

- The score is good. The music that plays in the film is good too (Smile, Bennie And The Jets, That's Life, Send In The Clowns, Apache)

- He does shoot 3 wall street guys early in the film and detectives suspect it's him and visit him from now and then in the film.

- It's very slow. It could very well be kino. It'll be divisive for people.

- It's the most uncomic comic book movie ever. Its very bleak. Just a series of bad things happening.

- Bryan Tyree Henry is in 1 scene. Joker fights him for files that detail his actual background instead of the **** his mom tells him. It's kind of like tug a war but once joker gets the files he just let's him go, Joker runs away as if he's being chased by guards.

- De Niro is only in like 2 scenes and he's great. They're all little pieces in Arthurs life that are slowly driving him off the deep end.

- Maron Works on de niros show. De niro invites Arthur onto the show to make fun of him but maron is trying to tell him to not do the bit cause Arthur is in clown makeup and it'd be in poor taste due to the murders by all the people in the clown masks lately. De Niro says no cause he thinks it's edgy and bold comedy, Maron still keeps telling him to cut the bit. De Niro interviews Arthur who says real things that happened to him and the audience and de Niro think he's just being edgy and tells him they don't do jokes like that on the show. It gets to where Arthur admits he killed the 3 wallstreet dudes and De Niro begins to take it seriously and stops making fun of him and asks him legitimate questions but by the time de niro realizes this is actually a really serious situation Arthur shoots him in the head.

- Jams scissors in someone's eye, bangs their head on a wall repeatedly. Starts a riot that gets someone shot in the process and starts another after killing someone on a late night talk show which gets the Wayne's shot, banks his head on the steel window of a police car causing it to crash into another car and then gets out and carves a smile on his face with the glass using the broken window shards.

- The film begins in the social workers office. At the end of that scene it cuts to the title "JOKER"

- Joker Mother as been lying to him his whole life and let her boyfriend sexually abuse him to pay for rent. She also says he's not funny.

- Zazie Bets is like joker mother and treats him well, you could say that they're friends.

- Joker falls hopelessly in love for Zazie Bets when she pity-laughs at one of his shitty jokes.

- It's after he invites she to see his standup, she laughs when she talks about getting fired and asks Arthur if he's ever been fired and wanted to torch the place and he answers "every time" to both 2.

- Some jokers:

"i just hope my death makes more sense than my life". "Knock knock. Who's there? It's the police ma'am, your son was hit by a drunk driver. He's dead" and the stuff you see written on his notebook in the trailer. His actual stand up he just laughs a lot and makes a fool out of himself, he also opens his arms like he's a big shot and says "look who's laughing now" when taking about how everyone said he wouldn't be a standup comedian and the audience is completely quiet.

- Once his social worker tells him Gotham is shutting down all their mental health services besides Arkham and that the rich don't care about the mentally ill. He doesn't care about not seeing her again but he cares that he won't have meds anymore.

- He doesn't feel like any other movie joker. He says jokes that objectively aren't funny at all and laughs a lot.

- He's written like a very realistic mentally ill person, he's almost childlike in a way. he really tries his best to be a good person, but everyone and everything beats him down.

- It's R. Most of the violence is at the end. Gun murders and stabbing.

​

- He has a journal with drawings, jokes and hardcore porn pasted onto it.

​

- The journal it's a reference to the beginning of the film where his social worker wanted to see his journal she gave him where he was supposed to detail how he feels and stuff like that, he used it for jokes and drawings and other unrelated things. At the end where another social worker at Arkham asks to see his journal he still isn't keeping up with it like he's supposed to.

- Very small scale. Gets a bit bigger toward the end but never to anywhere like a marvel movie.

- "I used to think my life was a tragedy" he Says it before he's about to kill his mom in the hospital

​

- The Joker couldn't get any other job besides being a clown and he got fired from that. He just wanted to make people happy.

- The movie seems to be getting positive reactions from test screenings. It's apparently bleak as **** and really depressing.

- The Joker talks and writes a lot bout his death. As for the subway guys they're drunk, at first they're trying to harass a woman on the bus but then they're distracted cause joker starts laughing due to being nervous and then they think he's laughing at them. It's then implied that the woman ratted out what the shooter looked like and that's why the detectives question Arthur throughout the film.

- De Niro calls him a Joker on TV and when he invites him on the show Joker demands he be called that cause he took it to heart, De Niro doesn't even remember saying it.

- 'Send in the clowns' music touches when When he kills the subway guys

- He's not wearing his makeup on arkham, but His head his shaved and he's in white clothes. But he does have a stitched up smile.

Sounds about what I thought it would be. Definitely feel like they are going for an oscar award with these spoilers. I think anyone with common sense should have figured it was going to be dark, depressing, grim, lack action, and be more story driven because first its budget was like 55 million not a lot there to spend on action sequences. Second, Joker does not have superpowers and has always used his psychotic intellect to commit crimes. Third, anyone who truly gets his origin pretty much knows that " it only takes one bad day". We are seeing Arthur Fleck's bad day plus some, which should be pretty awful experiences. Even if the leaks prove to be false I still expect a movie with a similar tone.
